I have a hernia that needs fixing which restricts the poo flow and I have a history of a tight anus and IBS. I was OK for a number of years with cosmocol but now it seems to really upset my bowels with explosions. My question is what is there that is a mild laxative. I sometimes have a few prunes in syrup on my breakfast and that is hit and miss. Thanks.

Need a gentle poo softener.
Hello ,You could try Dulcoease , it’s a stool softener , they’re quite gentle & you can vary quantities according to how it works best for you & they are readily available in supermarkets as well as chemists .
Good luck , I hope it works for you !
Dulcoease or Dulcosoft (both different ingrediants), or milled flaxseeds on cereal
Hi..I have to take Senna..a stimulant. I have severe pelvic floor disorder and am unable to have a bowel movement on my own. This is not a gentle laxative though (although it is for me because I have been on it for 15 years). Apple Juice has a gentle laxative effect. I get the 64oz. And drink about 1/2 of it and it works. Pear juice is excellent because it has more sorbitol than apple juice. I take Colace (Docuset Sodium) I take 3 in the morning. If lucky a couple of days later I have a movement but it's not substantial enough. Black strong coffee with 6 packs of Stevia is excellent. Also have you tried prescription medication like Linzess, Resolor, Trulance or Prucolapride? These may help as well..
For my wife 74 we do the following on a daily basis to manage her constipation. As always check with you doctor before starting any new treatment protocol.
Into 12 oz cold raspberry tea we mix 1 capful MiraLAX and 1 heaping teaspoon (about 13 grams) Mannitol USP and we squeeze 1/8 fresh large lemon and then throw the lemon rind into the tea to extract the nutrients.
FYI the Mannitol USP can cause gas, so again talk to your doctor.
