I am just wondering who else on here suffers from both IBS and recurring Cystitis? My cystitis is almost constant and bacteria based. I believe it has got so ingrained and is fast becoming antibiotic resistant. I have had a cystoscope and dilatation, to no avail, and have now lived on a low dose antibiotic for months and having stopped recently because they were upsetting my digestion so much, the bladder infection came storming painfully back. Am now on a full dose again, but the inflammation is still very troublesome. A while ago I tried the ‘Sweet Cures’ d,mannose powder, with high hopes, but it is obviously a high FODMAP as it is a sugar and caused terrible bloating and pain. I feel trapped in a viscous circle and the Dr’s don’t seem to have the answers. So any ideas or advice would be most welcome. Thank you.

I have been same no amount of antibiotic cleared it up D. Mannose killed me with gas and pain and low mood - for me the sugar in it was like same reaction to aspartame. Then doctor said low estrogen and gave me Vagifem well no way would I put that in my body. So I turned to homeopathy and having great success with staphysagria and pulsatilla - do search on internet for remedies for interstitial cystitis, uti's, cystitis and match your symptoms, Or go on Facebook check out Ask a Homeopath - list your symptoms and they will help you. I have appointement - well telephone call with urologist on 5 October but my symptoms are loads better
Thank you for your reply, that is very interesting. The GP is referring me back to the Consultant Urogynaecologist who I saw two years ago. It was his recommendation I stayed on a small dose antibiotic, but I think your body gets used to them. He also suggested local oestrogen treatment, so I may give that a try. What with that and stomach and IBS problems, life hardly seems worth living sometimes! I doubt he would be in favour of homeopathy, but I will bear it in mind, I did try it years ago for my IBS without success, but not for cystitis. I hope you continue to improve and your Consultant is pleased. I would be interested to hear the outcome.Sending you good wishes,
I would not use Vagifem when read side effects. I am doing better than ever on pulsatilla. I had this since March. Antibiotics stopped working but urine came back no infection i did have bladder stretch in 2000. Should try homeopathy can use with antibiotics but i only use them
I too suffer from chronic cystitis , IBS, Ulcerative Colitis and Colonic Dysmotility. I have had the bladder dilations too and they help but still get the UTI’s. My Urologist just retired so I have just started a new Urologist. I have been on Macrobid for about a month it’s an antibiotic 100mg a day. It’s not great on my stomach but it’s tolerable. I don’t like being on them. I have some urine leakage so that’s an issue. There is this other medicine called Myrberiq that is supposed to help but have not really tried it because it can cause constipation.
Thank you for your reply, so sorry you have so much to cope with, they are all very painful, debilitating conditions. I haven’t heard of your antibiotics, but all these drugs have side effects, usually affecting the gut it seems. The homeopathic treatment sounds interesting, certainly can’t do any harm.
We must keep this contact going, so that if one sufferer finds a good remedy we can help each other, often more help than the Dr’s!
