d-mannose for cystitis

Has anyone here taken d-mannose for recurring cystitis, and would it be likely to aggravate IBS bloating as it is derived from fruit sugar? I would like to try it but am also battling severe bloating and distension. Be interested to hear anyone's experience.

Hi

I have tried it and it worked for me it didn't bother me but as with everything and ibs it will effect everyone in a different way,I tried it after having 4 lots of antibiotics over a few months so my stomach wasn't great anyway you could try it and follow with a good probiotic a lot of people find them very helpful.

Good luck treez

I have just bought D-Mannose but haven't taken any yet so can't comment on effects, I have started a probiotics which is specifically for ladies bits ! it helps treat/prevent cystitis, thrush and bv, it's Optibac For Women, have a read up on it, I'm hopeful it will work.

Hi there you probably have candida, throughout your body. Try going off all fruit, fruit juice, sweets cake biscuits etc. also go on garlic tablets. You may have fermenting in your stomach causing the bloating.

Hi, I tried D-Mannose. It didn't work for me and it caused a lot of bloating with bowel and bladder discomfort. No surprise, as it is as you say, a type of fruit sugar. Ditto for things like cranberry etc. However, its supply seems to be a good going business so it must work for some. A bit expensive though and its placebo effect hasn't been checked out.

Hi,My Pharmacy, who is a very good friend told me it's a total waste of money.

Sorry if I sound negative, but I put my trust in him.

I can only speak from experience. After two courses of antibiotics for UTI this powder is keeping it away, no further problems. A friends urologist recommended it to her xx

There are medical studies (ncbi) that show D-Mannose does work in reducing reoccurrence of uti's.

It certainly works for me. I find the Powder best and will use it daily to keep cystitis away. Very pleased with this product xx

Apparently it only works on ecoli bacteria, won't help anything else.

Yes I can understand that to a point as they do say ecoli causes cystitis. The Powder has solved it for me after 2 courses of antibiotics xx

I have been taking D-mannose for some months now and believe it has actually helped my IBS. Doing a bit of research on this, I found that D-Mannose helps as a prebiotic. I would like to see more research done in this area. I take 2 D-mannose every morning on an empty stomach.

I found articles from a general Google search that suggest we need to use caution using d-mannose if on FODMAP diet for IBS or SIBO. I am still researching . I recommend looking at You Tube and research on Monash University FODMAP diet. I am going to try d-mannose. Will post result behj
