I have noticed some conversations about Interstitial cystitis recently and wondered if this is what I have had for some years but put down to the IBS. Could someone explain what it feels like please. It feels to me like I have poo inside me pushing against my bladder and female bits and giving me intense pain at times. It makes me feel like I want a wee but I know I don't and it hurts to much to go anyway. Also it gives me period like pains but finished my periods about 5 years ago. I am 60 now. Any information would be helpful. Many thanks. Maureen.

Interstitual cystitis
Is it possible you have a urinary tract infection?
I was the same for years Maureen & then found that I had a prolapsed womb, now have a ring pessary fitted to hold everything up & it's made a huge difference although I still suffer with ibs but I don't have the same problems with waterworks. I think it's all to do with the menopause as I'm quite fit & exercise regularly but I wish I'd found out earlier it would have saved years of misery. Hope you get sorted soon.
Hello, I have had interstitial cystitis for about 20 years and it doesn’t feel like something is pushing against the bladder and you do t get pain when you wee. The symptoms are urgency and frequency of going to the toilet then pain in the bladder (not while going to the toilet) which can be like a stabbing pain or some people feel like their bits are on fire! You can also experience an uncomfortable feeling in your bladder when it is full. Hope this helps a bit xx
Hi Anna, how were you diagnosed? Is there any treatment?
I got sick of being told nothing was wrong with me so I paid to see a gynaecologist private and she diagnosed me straight away...took 2 years going to docs though, you can have treatment I did for years but for me it didn’t work and others it works amazing for. I take amitriptyline for my ibs and that has stopped my IC pain so that’s amazing other than that I kept a food and drink diary for a year to work out what was triggering it off xxx
Thanks for replying Anna, it doesn't sound the same as I am experiencing so I guess it's just what I thought it was, ie the bowel pushing against the bladder and womb.
Hi Maureen,
IBS & IC together are very common. You need to go to a Urologist to be examined. In the meantime, you can try Bladder Q from Amazon. It works well for the Pain & cuts down on the number of times you have to wee. It’s $48, but well worth it.
