Propranolol and time to take them HELP!

So I’m on propranolol (10mg twice a day + a rescue tablet a third tablet when and if I need it ) the r the small pink pills I think they r the oral tablet kind not the slow release one. I’m taking one in the morning at 8:30 am this is a good time because of the 60-90 mins I read online it takes to kick in and by that time I’m at college. I have 8 hour days at college after 5-6 hours (from what I read the propranolol is out of my system). I take my other one at night 8pm along with my pill it seems like a waste because my anxiety is about going out not sleeping etc. By the time I wake up the propranolol is out of my system and I’m needing to take my morning dose is it better to take the second does half way through the day at like 2-3 pm? Help please have a docs appointment in a week and half but I don’t want to waste it if that makes sense

Probably best to take it as prescribed, which will be on the pack label, until you see your GP again, which is quite soon. You can then raise these questions, which seem perfectly reasonable to me. I am surprised that propanalol has such a short 'dwell' time. My mum takes it, and I am pretty sure she only takes one a day. A pharmacist would also be able to advise on this. You could do this sooner than your GP appointment. It is part of a pharmacists job to give help and advice, so they would probably be only to happy to talk to you. Most have a private room they can use too if that makes you more comfortable.

Best wishes,

BW

It says ‘one tablet twice a day’ doesn’t specify when I need to take it so I’m wondering if it’s better to take throughout the day. Idk tbh haha defo will give the pharmacist a call. I’m going off what I read online cause I wasn’t given much info in the leaflet. There r different types she may have the long release type but I don’t think I have that

Hi, you may want to try the "anxiety" support forum on here. I am on there, and have heard several people mention it, their experiences, etc. The IBS forum..maybe people not too familiar..since more digestive related. Are you specifically on this med for blood pressure or to slow your heart rate down? I have heard it is still in investigational stages and not widely prescribed for anxiety, unless before a public speaking event? Have you considered perhaps, a Benzodiazepine like Klonopin. I take 2mg in morning, and 2mg in evening..for panic/severe anxiety disorder..it also helps with insomnia. It works within about 10 minutes after taking it, and it is long lasting, so you don't have to guess or take several a day. 4mg is the maximum dosage. I am also on Busphar, which is also widely used for Anxiety..and was just prescribed Seroquel..it's 50mg, I take at bedtime, it is not sedating during the day on small doses (100mg or below) and it has been a Godsend. It really calms you down. It also helps regulate emotions, and insomnia, but I think it is best for anxiety as it lasts all day..Just one pill..☺

Technically I am on it for both (ibs and anxiety) yes I put this post on the anxiety support forum and my ibs is caused by my anxiety aka a fast heart rate sends my body hay wire

Same here..the Seroquel stopped my cramping, but unfortunately, it's very constipating..I'm on stool softeners, and take Senna every day, it usually works, but today, just having a really hard time. I think I need to stop taking the Ensure protein drinks. I have lost so much weight..I look just awful. I really don't want to go off the Seroquel, because it wouldn't matter..on a lot of constipating meds, Wellbutrin, Remeron, etc..no way to live..I hope we both feel better..

Not so good this morning..it's frustrating..can't stay close to a bathroom at home..too many errands to run..going to be a rough day, I am cramping and "C"..Just had coffee to try to have bowel movement..took stool softener yesterday..went late last night..but was so exhausted, more needed to come out, but I had to go to bed..paying for it this morning..hate going to have a "movement" I strain, it's uncomfortable..just frustrated..as it turns into pain and a big ordeal..(sorry for TMI)..I want my colon out..😳

I know what you mean..I am tempted to go back on prescribed opiates again..just so I can eat anything I want again. When I was on them..no pain..no cramping, no IBS..I miss those days..
