As a long time IBS sufferer I am really struggling with wind and bloating high up in my stomach, it also gravitates to under left rib, also a tremendous feeling of pressure just below my waist, small intestine area I believe. I’m constantly ‘burping’ and feel quite sick a lot of the time. I have been having awful nights with it, as when I’m falling asleep I get sudden reflux, not particularly acid, and a feeling of everything moving up. So a lot of sleep deprivation too. Windeze doesn’t help much and hot drinks make it worse. Also has anyone tried the wedge pillows, I always sleep on my left side but lying down is becoming a real problem. Thanks in advance. Ros

Sorry to hear that you are going through this. Like you I get a lot of bloating.
Also, like you, I sometimes wake, or can’t sleep, with reflux and feeling sick after lying down.
I have found that this happens after I have eaten certain foods – some ready meals – or if I have overeaten a little.
The only things that help are sitting propped up in bed and drinking lots of water and slowly chewing on a Rennie. I have improved a lot, since avoiding the foods that seem to trigger it.
Sorry to hear you also suffer with this horrible condition. I don’t find Rennie Deflatine does much for me, there is much less Simethicone in it than Windeze. I don’t eat anything after 7.30 pm, but still get the awful trouble at night. At present I am really bloated throughout my system and when it gets badly into my stomach makes me feel really bad. I’m sure I have SIBO, but knowing how to tackle it is difficult. However I’m sure you don’t need to know all my troubles, but it does help sharing with people who really understand. If I find an answer I will pass it on and hopefully help others. Best wishes Ros
Rennie Deflatine works best for trapped gas for me. Might be best to start keeping a food diary to find out the cause. I had a wedge pillow, which did help, but since I am a side sleeper I found that it eventually hurt my hips. Instead, for many years, I have been sleeping with bed risers (found on the internet) at the head of the bed, so that I sleep on an incline. You need risers that are 20cm high. This may only be possible if you have a zip and link bed (i.e. that splits in two) or have a bed to yourself.
Hi Gardener, your symptoms identical to mine I had 12 months ago. I went to a Naturopath and I was diagnosed with SIBO . Some say it's very rare but the treatment worked for me and I think a lot of people have it without realising it. I still have to watch and avoid certain foods but have got on top of it now. Its very debilitating. I hope you get some advice and get sorted.
This is so nasty , I have exactly the same , pain and feeling sick , and the burping is horrendous !! How I wish that they could find a medication for this !
Hi, I totally understand how you feel. I have had ibs for years but recently I keep getting this horrible sensation like I’m carrying a brick in my upper gut.Sometimes it’s a burning sensation, then a feeling like everything is pushing up and also it can be very painful under my left rib. I suffer with slow transit and constipation and it definitely all feels connected. I am living on rennies and camomile tea atm but it’s not nice . I have been on ppi tablets in the past for around 7 years to combat acid and heal gastritis. However after an endoscopy found fundic polyps I was advised to come off them.Long term use is apparently not good for you so I’ve been 6 months off them now. I suspect my symptoms and possibly yours could be too much acid 🤷♀️.Hoping it settles down for both of us very soon x
I got tested for IGE allergies and IGG food sensitivity and tested highest for beef and now omit beef and dairy from my diet, among other foods (cruciferous veggies, wheat, barley, rye). I still deal with a lot of burping, but the reflux and diarrhea have lessened.
Anyone remember Babylon 5? The Minari had angled beds that I thought looked impossible, now they seem like a good idea, since my system gets going and generates painful wind etc. that wakes me up frequently. Armchairs are a bit severe, I thought of a a retired first class airline seat but incredibly expensive. But I just thought maybe you can buy wedges, and yes you can, there are many variants, mostly for acid reflux. Not sure which is best as I'm tall but mostly due to my trunk. I'll try one or two -I sleep on my back.
Hi Gardener I've had gut problems for years which reached a life limiting stage for me and was fobbed off with ibs diagnosis. Eventually I had all the tests - endoscopy up and down several times, barium swallow, slow transit study with radio active beads, then a different transit study that takes xray images every 30 minutes after you've eaten a small snack and drink. Just need the right health person to go the extra mile. Result found I have a long 'floppy' colon which doesn't move as it should and slow gastric emptying. Had one round of botox in bottom of my stomach to help emptying and waiting for another round.
If I'm telling you anything you already know I apologise otherwise I wish you luck.
