Just had negative blood test results, as I’m negative for Celiac, does this mean I will be able to eat home made bread without upsetting my IBS.

Some times u may get a negative test but still have celiac as at the time of having ur bloods done u may of cut down on ur gluten intake without realizing. Try a little to see how u go and if ur symptoms come back avoid them again. Good luck

Only thing I’ve noticed, Weetabix upset me, it used to be my favourite breakfast at one time

My partner's tests all came back negative - apart from low folic acid he was only diagnosed because his GP wanted to cover every angle so was sent for the camera down his throat - this was when it was found out he was celiac - so push for further tests. You may not have celiac but could be non celiac gluten intolerant - look this up on internet

As Janet said you can still be gluten intolerant without being celiac...I have terrible problems with gluten, not all bowel related but am not celiac. I also have problems with lactose and soya. I sometimes make home made bread using oats, an egg, baking powder and dairy/soya free yoghurt. ..It tastes pretty good. If you Google oat bread I am sure you will find a recipe

Wheat is one of the very high fodmap foods which upsets IBS - it's one which I keep trying to re-introduce and every time it gives me an inflamed bowel. You could make your own bread with a gluten free bread mix or gluten free bread flour. I do quite well on the Schar gf white bread in small quantities because it is sourdough and not yeast. It isn't the gluten in the wheat - it is the fructans which upsets the bowel as it builds up and ferments.

Like everyone said just be careful my friend tested negative for celiac from blood tests but she was very poorly so they did the camera and it was positive....maybe try very small amounts to start with. I'm having the camera Friday so hoping they can find out if that's my problem too 🤞🏼 good luck with it.

Wheat in bread contains fructans which is a FODMAP. However, not everyone with IBS is intolerant to fructans. If you are OK with bread and don't get symptoms from it, you should be OK to consume it. However, were you consuming gluten containing products when you did the test? You'll need to be consuming gluten for a certain amount of time prior to the test for it to be valid. Otherwise your coeliac test will come back clear anyway and you still won't know if you have it or not.

Can I ask what symptoms you all had?

I have been referred to a gut specialist as I have pain in abdominal, upper and occasionally lower.

I burp more than I used to and I physical here my stomach trying to digest my food. ?

I have occasional pain in the left side too?

Thanks

I had a client a few weeks ago - 2 gastroenterologists said she had functional bowel disorder, as she wasn't coeliac positive so live with it (so all the usual awful symptoms that make life not really worth living!) but after taking a thorough medical history it was pretty obvious that gluten was playing a role. Two weeks strictly no gluten - no symptoms! Find a nutritional therapist to support you - most can see you also via on-line platforms. It will change your life!
