Ibs-d humiliation

Finally walked out of my job last night after a bad flare up at work. My boss was there whilst i was trying to clean up and calm down.

The next 10 minutes was the lowest most humiliating time of my life. I was made to feel at blame and dirty. I even apoligised before resigning

Totally devestated. Im 50 tomorrow, happy birthday to me

Years ago I threw up at a party in front of everyone and thankfully everyone there was very kind but it was embarrassing at the time!

I'm so sorry :( This is one of the reasons I am so grateful to work from home. I can't even imagine the humiliation and that you weren't supported is even worse. It happens to others though, so you're not alone. My mom had it happen to her at work too and she was also humiliated. Now, when I feel I might have an accident, I wear a diaper. It was hard to accept at first, but I'd rather wear a diaper than have an uncontrollable accident. Have you considered wearing one?

I have had accidents also, as well as some very close calls. They are very upsetting at the time, but after a few days or weeks, the episode will recede in your mind and you will forget about it. Good you ordered diapers, as they will make you feel more relaxed and therefore, less likely to need them. As to your boss, I can only say I am thankful that there aren't many people as awful as he is. Very good you quit your job. xx

Your boss sounds like an ignorant unfeeling person who doesn’t deserve to have you on the payroll! Well done for getting out of there. It’s so hard going to work with IBS.

Have a lovely special birthday and things will get better for you. X

I am so sorry this happened to you. You’ve absolutely done the right thing in leaving your job. There are bosses out there who will support you a lot more.

Happy Birthday 🥳 try to put this out of your mind and enjoy your special day x

Awful, but it may well lead to new thinking for the future. I hope you find new solutions. I am lucky that my worst moment IBS wise was with a close friend and I was able to find a nearby public toilet quickly and go back to our hotel without too much fuss. I always have spare underwear in my bag! And things have improved a lot since then.

Happy birthday fellow 1971 child :)So sorry to hear of your situation.

If it helps, i got pushed out of my job last year because of IBS C but now have another job working for an amazing company and i'm actually glad it happened despite the humiliation, embarrassment etc.

Also, try the fybogel mebeverine, it bunged me up, which is the opposite of what i require.....

Good luck, have a day for yourself and screw the job, another will come along.

I left a job back in 2019 due to bullying that I had put up with for far too long!

At present I am looking fot another position but I'm thankful I'm not at that job being made miserable all day every day which I feels made my ibs worse as nowadays it is a lot better.

Sorry to hear about what you've been through. You may have a case of constructive dismissal due to treatment by your boss i.e. you felt you had no other choice but to leave due to their behaviour. A proper boss is meant to be supportive. Unfortunately constructive dismissal can only be pursued if you don't find another job and best only if you can find an agency that will work on a no win no fee basis. You might want to seek some advice from Citizens Advice. If you're not feeling great about your birthday and HAPPY 50TH by the way, you might want to park the date and celebrate it another time when you are feeling more up for it - note the queen has two birthdays a year.

Once I was at the job centre and the interviewer, after hearing of my difficulties, started laughing and said she would try to get me a job in a public toilet. I burst into tears and she apologised profusely. I bet she was careful what she said to interviewees after that. I have voided many many times in public but only been treated kindly. The man owes you an apology. Big time. Con amore Bx Sorry, once I was threatened with the police but others intervened and told the woman to shut up.

Sometimes people don't realise how these comments can hurt do they?

So sorry to hear of your dreadful experience. Have a good birthday. I’m sure quitting your job will be the most positive birthday present you could have given yourself! You don’t need to be working in that sort of environment 😊

You need to report your boss. Get him shamed ! Most companies have an officer or department to report it. This is a disability and should as such be supported in the workplace. It’s a horrible horrible thing to live with and doctors don’t take it seriously enough. Happy Birthday x explore your options x good luck x

I’m so sorry that this happened to you :( Happy birthday! I really hope today is going better than yesterday 💕

I'm sorry to hear that's happened to you as accidents feel like the end of the world when they strike but you made the right decision in leaving though.

Not knowing all the specifics in most cases especially here in the states if an employer was non supportive and acted in a way that made the employee feel attacked and uncomfortable that is usually a huge lawsuit waiting to happen.

While I do not blame you but people like it seemed you faced do not stop at one person, I assume others have been harmed in the same way. Thankfully the majority of people are good people and jerks are fewer. But when it comes to how people understand and deal with those with chronic issues many cannot understand until that person with the issue is them.

It doesn't sound as if your boss has any understanding at all. Hope you find a better one. The problem is bad enough without being made to feel guilty. I am retired now and when I was working my ibs was c. It changed following surgery for oesophageal cancer. The time I had a total accident while out I was with my son who was fantastic in getting me to a store with disabled toilet and buying me new trousers. I always carry pants but there is a limit! My advice, which must be even harder to follow if you are working, is try not to let it totally rule your life. Ask about medication to slow your bowel. If you can afford it buy imodeum instants. I go nowhere without spares pants, tissues and wipes. Also I got a key for disabled toilets which can help avoid a queue. Its very hard and sad about your job but you are by no means alone with the actual problem. Of course, the obvious, always know where there are toilets!
