Hi, I'm new to this site but finding comments really interesting. IBS is such a minefield but I now think I suffer more when I eat onions so can take steps to reduce onions and see what happens.

Onions have Inulin and Fructans same as garlic and they can affect a lot of people.

Eliminating FODMAP foods can help but everyone is different and you just need to figure out which foods are ok with you and which ones to avoid

Writing a Journal for 3 weeks detailing what you're eating, when, how you're feeling, and also flare ups is a great way in figuring out what foods you can stay away from. FODMAP in combination at the very start is a good start because it will rule out quickly how effective a FODMAP diet really is for you.

So I would certainly suggest that, and add Onions to the top of the list of stuff to stay away from 😁
