Probiotic recommendations?
I use probiotics in rotation so that I get as many strains as possible. Zenflore, Alflorex, Biokult and some of the soil based (more expensive). I also use a Kefir drink - Love your gut which is made from coconut milk as I don't do dairy atm because I am still on the low Fodmap diet. I would recommend not relying solely on probiotics - you need a multi pronged approach -1. low fodmap to clear the gut of fermenting undigested remnants - 2. digestive support to aid your digestion at each meal (enzymes - I use Quest). 3. an antibacterial like oregano oil or caprylic acid to inhibit the bad bacteria. 4. prebiotics - soluble fibre like psyllium husk. 5. probiotics to rebuild the good bacteria in the gut. It's tiresome at first but you soon get used to it and the relief is palpable.
Alflorex worked best for me.
The gastro consultants recommend Symprove. It’s fairly expensive but proven to help. I use Alflorex at the moment which is fine and keeps me regular. I would try Symprove for a while if you can afford it and then move to a cheaper one to maintain although varying them sounds like a fair idea. I now use Bimuno prebiotics also to back up and sustain the good bacteria. Unsure if that’s doing anything as only just started. Good luck!
Can anyone suggest me a good probiotic supplement? I had UC for years and those symptoms disrupts me all the time :((/ Any recommendation is highly appreciated!
