H pylori stool test

Just back from my GP with a bucketful of symptoms mixed up with my anxiety.

He was so lovy, patient and very thorough, and has asked me to send in a stool sample for testing for h pylori. Now, I am 58 and no way was I asking this young whippersnapper 😊 how to collect the sample. They provided a pot.

Suggestions gratefully welcomed, thank you!

I’ve had this. Horrible bug. Just take a good scoop about the size of a small grape

Thank you.I have had a really bad night with pains in my stomach....a pressure more than pains.

I haven't eaten more than a porridge pot for days, but haven't had any hunger grumbles either.......is this part of it??

I had it for over a year but was ignored. My symptoms were Gas, wind, reflux, bubble like pockets in my guts. A gripping turning feeling in belly, stretching feeling after BM. Feeling like you want to clear your throat is another. Anxiety is higher coz the bug lowers the serotonin levels in your body

Thank you, I was examined by GP yesterday who requested the test. Overnight my tummy has been really uncomfortable - can't say painful that I needed painkillers - but has felt heavy and bruised, and I had reflux last night just after water. No appetite so eating virtually nothing but my tummy isn't telling me its hungry either. Thank you again x

Plenty on YouTube about it. It’s very common up to 50 percent in the uk have it

I was having stomach issues, gas bloating constipation fatigue and was diagnosed with h pylori about a month ago. Haven’t started the triple treatment yet. A bit reluctant, read so many negative things about antibiotic side effects. I am still researching alternative treatment options. When taking the stool sample make sure you catch it in clingfilm, this way it won’t get contaminated.

Thank you! Hope you find some suitable alternatives soon, and feel better soon x

Hope so. I too have lack of appetite and started burping a lot recently. Good luck to you too!

I was dreading the triple treatment as well but finished them off without any side affects at all. I usually dread antibiotics as I typically have symptoms. I think the pepto also helped around meal times. Who knows how long I’ve had it but I was starting to notice gastric issues and weight loss. Had an endo/colonoscopy earlier this week so I’m hoping the meds cleared the infection. Hope u start to feel better.

Thanks gnillo.

I've just come in to find a phone message that a GP is going to ring me tomorrow. My anxiety is now through the roof. If the test was negative, surely the receptionist would just have said so? I know that on the form the test was purely for the hpylori bacterium, but my mind has 24hrs now juggling they've find cancer cells, blood, something dastardly in the specimen.

How long for you to get your results from your scopes? I've heard that the triple therapy can be pretty awful, so it is reassuring to hear you got through it without much problem after dreading it so much! Did it help to relieve any bloating and belching? thank you again, hope your results are good!!

🙂

Hidden Waiting for answers can definitely cause more anxiety so I know how u feel. My breath test took about 3 days and doc walked me through it all. The blood test will just show if the antibody is present or not (if you’ve had it in the past/recently had it). Depending on which test u did rest assured ur doc will call u once the results r in. I think u should be fine.

I honestly never had belching or too noticeable stomach issues to begin with. Mainly food intolerances and some nausea when eating. The wife had h-pylori 3 years ago so it never occurred to me to go tested. I did because of continued weight loss and nauseous feelings. Results from the scopes should take 5-10 days is what I’m told but their initial impression wasn’t worrisome. I hope u get some answers soon and ur belching/bloating gets under control.

Hi. Is that correct that h pylori lowers serotonin levels. Where did you find that

in reply to AMerchant

Yes. It’s a symptom of pylori. Interestingly it’s a very clever bug. Although a menace to the system and very resilient

Interesting. I suffer from the same symptoms and had a serum test for H.Pylori. Just slightly above the 'good' levels and my GP in the Netherlands doesn't think it is worrisome although he knows I've serious problems with my intestines and also suffer from depession/anxiety. I take venlafaxine (SNRI) for these symptoms. I will tell my gastroenterologist next week, maybe it should be treated.

See if you can try to eradicate it. It’s not healthy to have this long term as can lead to stomach ulcers
