Little bit worried

Hi,

For the past 6-8 months i have had persistent bloating every time i eat and drink. I ignored it because lots of my friends said it was normal and they had it too. But for the last 3 months i have gone between being constipated one day and having diarrhoea the next day. My stomach always distends so much when i bloat that i look pregnant. I suffer with wind and the occasional back pain. But i never have any stomach pain. I finally called my doctor who said i needed to do a blood test and a stool sample. She said she wanted to rule out crohn's disease and things like that. She said itmay be something like IBS.

Then she asked me if i have been urinating more frequently. I said that i had been since over a year ago and had been to the doctors and nothing came of it as hospital scan showed that my bladder looked normal. I literally pee like 30 times a day and always up in the night too at least twice. And now she says when she does my bloods she wants to check for ovarian cancer as some of the symptoms i have are the signs of ovarian cancer as well as things like crohns disease and ibs and she wants to rule that out aswell. Especially as i have a family history of various cancers in the younger members of my family.

But now i'm utterly terrified! I'm hoping its IBS or something else similar and i know they have to check these things but how can i not be scared?! I don't have my bloods till monday and then that will take at least a week or 2 and i guess i just needed to write all this down as i just don't know how to feel. And its super hard for me to not worry about it.

I don't know if i should even mention it to my boyfriend or my dad because i don't want to worry them! Suppose i'm just hoping someone has a similar story that turned out fine.

Sorry for the long post. Just scared and upset at the moment.

Do mention it to your boyfriend and dad so they can give you support and comfort, it's natural to worry but try to keep busy until you get your results.

I hope it all goes well for you.

Hi there, it sounds like you have a good doctor who is looking after you. Many of us have had serious things like cancer ruled out before a diagnosis like ibs is made as while ibs is much more common it can only be diagnosed by ruling out other conditions. All best wishes

Totally understand. I was referred for a colonoscopy and a ct scan. After ibs symptoms hit me. Was terrified it was going to be cancer as lost both parents to cancer. Alot of sleepless nights later, and two tests......no cancer. Probably the biggest relief of my life. Hannah get tested, better to know these things as early as you can.

Your doctor is ruling out all possibilities. Your blood test CA125 is likely to be normal at your age. I’m assuming your fairly young. Sometimes this things take time and especially at the moment. Try to relax

The draws are Monday and it may take a week or two for results

. I am in the US abd while we have a lot of issues with our medical care I know that I would have results in 48 hours or if my doc wrote STAT maybe the next morning or afternoon. Good luck and by the way, your doctor should priortize the results with your issues and familial history.

Thanks everyone. Had some bloods taken on Monday and also gave a stool sample. They said to call in a week for the results, otherwise if something came up they would call me before then. I just had a call from my doctor's saying that i needed to have a routine follow up appointment for my stool sample, she said it's not urgent but the doctor does need to make an appointment for you. And then they said the earliest appointment was 9th feb! So now I have to sit here agonising over it. I mean they must have found something otherwise i wouldn't need the appointment would i? In the past when i have had tests i have to ring them up because i haven't heard from them and i always am used to being told everything is clear. So this now has me a bit worried. She didn't say anything about my blood tests and i didn't ask so i am assuming they were fine. But i know they can't tell me anything over the phone anyway.
