I was totally impacted after taking morphine. Doctor came to house to perfom enema, a liquid type which is the strongest. 2 days later IBS arrived back with avengence. Pain seems to be trapped wind. Anyone else experienced this?

I have been given hospital "Soapsud" enemas, over the course of several years which they claim to be strongest. The only side effect I have had is watery stool leakage when I get home. I don't do irrigation professionally or on my own. Only thing that works for me is Senna. I would trapped wind would be a side effect for about a day after procedure. I have never had cramping from it. Can I ask (just curious) as to why a Doctor did this in your home?

Yes, I called 111 at 9am, was sent to a walk in centre where I saw doctor who diagnosed inpaction. He wrote a presription for suppositories and said he would pass my info on so that a D/N or a doctor would come to give me an enema at home. The doctor arrived at 5pm and gave me the liquid type enema. As it was painful the next day I spoke to the D/N on phone, told me just to take sips of water and I shoudl feel better by the evening. Now Sunday and in extreme pain. Phoned D/N and she said take the oramorph to take the edge off pain. Reluctant as this is what bound me up. She did say it was normal to have some tummy pain after an enema. To lie on my left side so any trapped wind could be released. If not eased to ring 111 again. Fingers crossed the pain will soon ease

I hope you feel better soon..but if not..The Doctor did not do it correctly. Or insert it correctly. Sometimes if Doctors are not all that experienced in this, they may even give you an anal fissure. This is why I would skip an "in home Doctor" and just go straight to hospital ER. They know how to do it right. I have had several of them and never pain afterwards. Try to get the Soapsud enema. Suppositories rarely work as they can burn when inserted and not very good or strong enough to clear an impaction. Also Senna and Liquid Magnesium citrate are excellent at clearing an impaction without the pain. The store bought enemas are not strong enough either, as there is not enough fluid. If you are still experiencing pain try to get to E.R.

Thanks for your response. With the Covid19, we in Great Britain are not allowed to go directly to a hospital. We have to go through 111 system where you are directed where to attend, hence the on call doctor visiting me at home. He was very proficient and very nice to me so I have no grumbles there. Best wishes to you Eliana.

Ahh..sorry..didn't know where you were from. Dang Covid!!! I think we get the vaccines this week. But we have the new strain you guys have. I'm very nervous about. The first one in California. Ugh. Will this ever end? Happy New Year! May we have better health this year.

Hello Eliana, I started a lengthy reply and then lost it!! Yes this virus had had a bad effect on being able to receive appropriate treatment.I have had Skype appointments with a Neuro Gastro who has now passed me on to a colorectal surgeon in London, 100 miles away, seeing him face to face on 13th. My cousin's daughter lives in San Diego, I wonder if that's near your neck of the woods? Have been invited but flight too long for me. Any way Eliana,, I do hope you manage to enjoy most parts of the coming year. Hope the vaccinations get a move on so we receive the protection we all need. Best Wishes. Cherry x
