I suffered food poisoning back in November and have had a bad tummy ever since plus a skin rash. I've been getting a lot of nausea and diarrhoea which is a lot better than it was.
The doctors have been brilliant and I've had a Colonoscopy, Ultrasound and Endoscopy but they all came back clear. A friend of mine had been to see a Nutritionist and was told she was intolerant to bananas, since she's stopprd eating them she's feeling completely better.
I have been told I'm I tolerant to gluten, barley, oats rye, cow's milk and yeast, I'm not surprised as I had my suspicions. I'm Vegan so the cow's milk isn't a problem. I'm going through withdrawal now which hasn't been good but I'm sure it'll be out of my system soon.
Today I have ordered a Microbiome test at the recommendation of the Nutritionist, this will then give me the final answer on what's happening to my gut Microbiome. I plan to rid myself of these awful symptoms (I know they are mild symptoms in comparison to a lot of people on here but I have found them debilitating for me).
I will report back on here once I've had my results and looked further in to what I'm eating.
I'm a great believer that IBS is mainly down to food but it's hard to find out exactly what those foods are but IBS needs to be gone forever!
On a final note, what is put in ready prepared food today is disgusting i.e. chemicals and what they spray the fruit and vegetables with as well.
I hope we all finally get the answer for a cure and heal ourselves.😀
Hi crazyfitness, just wondering what microbiome test you are using. This is something I have been thinking about doing for a while but they are so expensive.
The Nutritionist recommended Chuckling Goat and I was pleased to see it was on offer, think the offer only lasts for another day. The price was, I'm sure, £109. I'm just going to check and will get back to you.
It was £109.95 with free shipping. It's the only way we can really find out what's going on with our systems as unfortunately the physicians don't and label so many ailments as IBS!
Thank you. That is the one I was looking at. I would be pleased to hear how you get on. They say you get a telephone consultation with a nutritionist, so I was wondering if it's possible to cut out the private nutritionist. Perhaps you could let me know how you get on with it. I will follow you, if you don't mind.
Sorry to hear this - did you only develop the symptoms after the poisoning? peppermint helped me thoroughly when I was dealing with awful upper stomach issues a few years back aswell as ginger tea, ive had some lower issues since taking antibiotics which supposedly killed my gut microbes but cant even afford good food atm as im a student haha so cant afford the test. Prayers for you, digestive systems SUCK when broken
I was diagnosed with IBS in 1996 and had it under control right up until the food poisoning back in November and it's since then that I have had problems. Put it one way I'm never going to eat rice again, it was a ready prepared lunch pot that I bought which I didn't realise had rice in it. I heated the food until it was piping hot and started to get problems the same day I ate it.
I've had all the tests and of course they came back clear so that's when I decided to see a Nutritionist recommended by a friend. I've basically done everything I can.
Antibiotics are really bad for our guts, I was on them last week as I had a gum infection, this might be why I'm feeling rubbish at the mo. I understand re money, it all costs but for me I'm just at the end of my tether.
I'm going to report back on here once the results come back.
I hope you also feel better very soon.
Hi Hidden
I have SIBO and mild IBS. I suspect I developed these conditions after two bouts of low level food poisoning six years ago when I was still a meat eater. Its not clear if it was the food or the antibiotics (the latter more often a cause of dysbiosis than rotten food!).
I've been vegan for over 2 years and apart from the other obvious health benefits from following a whole food plant based diet it has been challenging adapting the diet to suit my symptoms.
Because a lot of plant foods are high in starch, soluble and insoluble fibres and other complex long chain sugars it does exacerbate by small intestinal bacterial overgrowth when these foods can ferment in my SI.
I am not such an expert via experiences with IBS but I believe that some fibrous foods can be difficult to 'stomach'. Thats why I would recommend a low FODMAP diet which will remove many of the troubling foods during the restrictive first phase and will help you learn what triggers your symptoms during the reintroduction and adaption phases.
As always, getting sound, science based advice is difficult via Google and equally so with so called specialists in the UK. Happily I have found a plant based GI and nutritionist who are expert in all things IBD/IBS/SIBO. I am now on the round to recovery and can even tolerate garlic and wheat pasta again (very high in Fructans) with a few foods left to 'test'.
Reply or PM me for more details of FODMAP diets (PM if you want names of specialists) if you would like to know more...
Good luck

Hi David
Thank you very much for your reply, it's much appreciated.
I have to say I've looked at the Low Fodmap a few times but never actually started it as I wasn't sure what to do. Well done on finding an expert and I'm so glad you are starting to feel better, it must be quite difficult being a Vegan with the Low Fodmap diet, I'm finding it hard just taking gluten, yeast, rye, barley and peas (I have a medium sensitivity to peas).
I've just received an email and the test kit is being delivered on Monday.
Once again, thank you for your help, really appreciate it.
