Hi Junie
I'm so sorry you are suffering, that's what I used to be like before I started the low fodmap diet, I had nausea and diarrhoea every day.
I've never heard of Calcil and can't find it on the internet, do you have a leaflet with possible side effects listed?
I really hope you feel better very soon.
Alicia
Hi
Sorry not. calcil must type more slowly..What I meant to type was
Cacit® 500mg Effervescent Tablets.
It is calcium, the doctor was trying to find a calcium supplement that was not combined with another supplement.
I don’t get much calcium in my diet.
Sorry again for the typo
Thanks for your reply
Junie
Hi Junie
That's not a problem, I've done the same many times. I've just looked at the leaflet and here it is:
medicines.org.uk/emc/files/....
It does list nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, wind and constipation as possible side effects albeit it's quite rare, 1 in 1,000 people can get them. Also, because they are effervescent I can well imagine getting tummy cramps and pain with them.
What is the reason your doctor prescribed them i.e. can you not get enough calcium in your diet because you can't eat calcium rich foods?
Here are some calcium rich foods just in case you are able to eat them:
bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide...
And here are other natural calcium supplements.
healthline.com/nutrition/be...
I really hope you find something that works for you and you don't react to.
I was originally diagnosed with IBS back in 1996 and it was mainly tummy cramps and constipation which I could deal with but then in November 2018 I had a bout of food poisoning from a lunch pot I'd bought in the supermarket, it had rice in it and then my IBS changed to IBS D with acute nausea. I had this for around a year and couldn't take it any longer so went to see my doctor and pleaded with him to refer me to a Dietician that had been trained in a low fodmap diet, the rest is history so they say. I started the low fodmap diet on 13 January this year and haven't looked back, I'm so much better. I'm a Vegan so it's a little more challenging but I've got used to it now.
I wish you all the very best.
Take care
Alicia
Hi Alicia
I have had Ibs for 5 years, did the Fodmap and tried most things, my gastro consultant is trying to help, I have appointment with her next week.
I am a vegetarian, but strangely don’t like most veg or can not tolerate it , fruit is also very limited .
My diet is very bad, I can eat a salad and sourdough bread rolls.
My doctor says I need calcium, milk makes me nauseous.
I take vitamin D, iron tablets, zinc , and magnesium citrate.
As I am older I do need to take calcium.
Just trying to find a way to do that so I get enough vitamins for my needs.
I will look at the links you suggested,
Thanks so so much
Junie
Hi Junie
I'm so sorry the low fodmap diet didn't work for you. I'm the same with fruit and veg even though I'm Vegan, my tummy doesn't tolerate it that well.
I'm glad you're seeing the consultant next week
I agree we need to look after our bones, I'm getting older as well, in my 60's now which is definitely not old but it's when you tend to feel your joints more, I ignore my knee pain as don't get it often.
I really hope you get somewhere with the links.
Best of luck
I'd be very very careful with the symprove, I believe it made me very ill and I think it gave me SIBO and I am in a very bad way now. Lost huge amounts of weight, am under hospital care.
