Yes. The problem with these medications is that they relax the bowel which should help and it does help many people but if you are eating something your bowel doesn't like, it irritates it then that food will stay in the bowel longer. The longer it is there the longer you get the pain. It's far better with IBS to get the irritant food out of the bowel as quick as possible. If you are taking mebeverine for IBS pain then I would suggest you stop taking it, let your bowel get rid of the food culprit and look more closely at your diet. You should be on a low fodmap diet. I suffered 7 years of hell before I discovered I was lactose/dairy intolerant. I cut out all dairy and whey products and within 2 weeks it was like a miracle had happened.

No? That’s odd

I have taken it for years . Used to take it before a meal now I take as and when I feel sick or bloated or side pain

Hi sorry later than most in reply. Yes I have problems too, can only tolerate for a couple of days, Buscopan also. I think this confirms how we are all very different in our symptoms and responses! I take only the minimum I can, either 1 or 2 days when things are really bad, which I discussed with GP. I know diet isn't always the issue for people, but after being referred to an NHS Dietician this really helped, and medication is my emergency backup. I hope you get some relief Tricktree.
