Fodmap and dietician positive results so far

I have not posted for a while. I have IBS- C and got to a desperate stage in the summer where I was not coping.

I have had 3 months of support from a dietician on line who is an IBS specialist. (I used my holiday money to pay).

It has so far been a game-changer. I am off laxatives. I take an expensive probiotic but it costs the same as buying a coffee a day. I also take added natural fibre depending on how I am.

She increased my fibre intake, I have made lifestyle changes with sleep, trying to relax and exercise. Stress is still a big issue.

I have been following Low FODMAP fruit and vegetables only as I wasn't in the other category that removes the other elements.

I am now on week one of reintroduction.

Positives not constipated but still get questionable days, not as windy or noisy stomach. My days are pain-free but I do still bloat. It is a learning curve with mistakes along the way BUT I am in such a better place than I was.

I am so glad you are so much better. I was fortunate enough for my doctor to refer me to an NHS Dietician and I started the Low Fodmap in January this year as I was desperate, I begged my doctor as I was getting diarrhoea and nausea on a daily basis so much so I thought on numerous occasions that I was going to throw up, I suffer with Emetophobia (fear of being sick) so that didn't help matters.

I've been through the reintroduction and have to say that I am sticking mainly to low fodmaps but after taking Alflorex for 3 months now I'm starting to see a benefit, I didn't think they were working but through the past week or so I'm much better, I even ate a shop made Beetroot burger last night and I'm fine (it had both onion and garlic in it).

I still keep my diet diary and think I always will now as it's a very good guide.

I'm so pleased that you are much better and best of luck with the reintroduction.

Hi again what is/are Alflorex? Do you recommend it? Thanks

in reply to Lancslass66

I would. They are probiotics specifically created for IBS, it was the Professor that wrote the Low Fodmap book for this country that recommended them. They should take 6 to 8 weeks to work but took around 11-12 weeks for me. They've cut down the frequency I use the toilet and my stools are firmer.

They are made by Precision Biotics but see if you can get on a trial to try them initially.

Best of luck.

Hi thanks I have IBS-C so sounds like they may not be ideal for me. Ah well
