Hi,
I have been on Omozapole for quite some time now after an ulcer was found, with pain.
Can’t say it’s had any bad effect on me however, I’m not happy to be on for such a long ongoing time as can increase risk of other things. And now my Consultant wants me to increase dosage due to diarrhoea/pain issues.
Make sure you take your dose at least 40 minutes before eating. Alcohol a no no.
Diet is important too but sure you are aware.
Hope it works for you.x
I’ve had no dietry advice at all
Not even been diagnosed with an ulcer
It was a telephone consult doc can’t see you so it’s a process of elimination how do you heal an ulcer ?
Normally an ulcer (maybe ulcerated gastritis) is found by the test when they put a small camera in your stomach and checking if it is that.
Diet.. steer clear of spicy and acid type foods, chocolates, alcohol. Fruit juices are high acid etc. In short eat good old plain meals, meal n vet and include plenty of fibre.
Stress can irritate ulcers as us humans create our own digestive acids.
It's horrid when tests can't be done.
Sounds like Dr wants you to try the meds and go from there.
I'm in no way Ms Knowledge on this, just what I know from my own experience and had explained by a Gastro Consultant.
Hope that's a little help.
Yes Nikkilawlegs it did make me feel tired when I was on it. Without the acid in my stomach to digest food properly I wondered if it was causing me to really lack energy.
I took Omeprazole for a couple of years. It robbed me of my sense of taste and made my IBS increasingly worse and yes, made me feel tired. Just before stopping it, I had an endoscopy and it showed polyps and stomach erosion. Apparently, i read that polyps can be caused by taking medications which alter and reduce stomach acidity. Omeprazole are brilliant at reducing acidity but look up long term side effects. It was only passed by the FDA for short term use. I took Zantac instead but that was recalled a year ago because of a contamination problem. Now I use Rennies. Well toasted bread brfore bed can help too.
Hope this helps
I take 'Omozapole' and have had no problems. I don't get tired, I wish I did, I have trouble sleeping.
Nikkilawlegs, are you talking about Omozapole or Omeprazole?
Okay.👍 I have been taking it for a few weeks now because of the side effects of my osteoporosis medication. My GP didn’t say anything about the possible long-term ramifications. I think I need to do some research. Honestly, sometimes it seems like we’re damned if we do and damned if we don’t.
I was put on this too, but was not diagnosed with an ulcer. Was, bloated, nausea and diahoerea after eating mainly. Prescription says 4 - to max 6/8 weeks. GP told me try another month. Referred me for endoscopy. Hospital told me, they only take patients with emergency due to covid. GP said nothing, still waiti g. No feedback on lamsprozole. Continue or not. Also tested for HP. Negative. These are really strong meds. But GP's say its fine. I still don't know if I gave an ulcer or anything for that matter. Care is heavenly neglected due to covid.
Tested positive for HP couple of months ago after a year of bloating gas wind spasms and gurgling gut. Affected my stool to. Finish the week’s course of metronidazole and amoxicillin 6 weeks ago but I’m still on the 40mg omeprozole. Still I’m getting bloating after main meal mainly worse in the evening. I just hope the Hp has gone. Still waiting for camera down.
Can omeprozole (40) cause any of these affects or how long can the stomach take to calm down?
