I’ve just been diagnosed with IBS and put on Mebeverine, do they stop diarrhoea

Hi,as far as I know all mebeverine does is stop your tummy having spasms after you have eaten food. I only take them when my IBS flares up. I think other medications are more suitable for your diarrhoea. Good luck

best thing for getting rid of that is fibre capsules, three a day

I remember they did help for about six months and then the diarrhoea came back.

I was given it for abdominal spasms.

Buscopan worked better for me!.

I've been on mebeverine for over a decade, it doesn't stop it. All it does is control the spasming in your colon so you have less trips to the toilet.

The problem with IBS meds is that IBS is simply a "catch-all" for any digestive condition as most digestive symptoms mirror each other in almost every way. Which is why so many of the meds work for some and not others.

It's really just a case of keep trying until you find something that actually works for you
