Acid Reflux

Hi all,

Does anyone have any advice on dealing with Acid Reflux (other than taking Nexium or Gaviscon)?

Mine seems to be triggered by smells rather than eating food, for example the smell of washing powder, perfume, paint, vinegar and peppermint all cause a reaction. Does anyone else get this? If so, what do you do to relieve symptoms?

Thanks,

Omeprazole works wonders

Yeah trying to steer clear of PPIs as I heard they weren't great for your gut. Although if I get that desperate I'm sure I can use it as a last resort.

I’ve been taking Omeprazole for about 20 plus years and have no side effects.

Hospital staff nurse told me Gaviscon is very high in salt

Yeah and I don't find it that helpful anyway. That's why I'm trying to find an alternative.

You can try silicon gel, you can buy it over the counter in boots or health shops, It does work for me!

And make sure your diet is acid free!

Hello, so sorry to hear of your acid reflux.

1 cimitidine tablet, twice a day (for stomach acid) - Gaviscon and Omeprazole

do not help me. Also old fashioned Rennies tablets, or alternatively, Colpermin for IBS is good.

Good luck on resolving your problem.

Take care and stay safe.

I get severe acid reflux, I’ve been on everything from Omeprazole to Famitidine (basically every single PPI). I’ve gone back to Omeprazole for a bit as they tend to stop working so you need to swap. I find natural yogurt & milk helpful, staying away from greasy or spicy food. And I’ve just discovered milk of magnesia which I’ve been taking instead of Gaviscon which doesn’t really help me much. The gaviscon advance tablets that you suck work better for me than the liquid strangely.

Silicolgel is working for me.

Soda water is also a quick fix.

Knowing you’re triggers. Usually high fat, lots of sugar (jams etc).

Croissants with Jam is my very own little hell.

Odly enough food doesn't seem to trigger it. Tends to be smells more than anything

Haven't had a reaction from sugar but everything else you listed is a problem. Did you find anything that helped you?

Gaviscon will destroy your reins and iron reserves glands..and Nexium that we take is not an original one. you cant quit it if you take it!
