I've suffered IBS symptoms since forever. Symptoms include trapped wind, loud stomach gurgling, the need to pass a stool but only wind and clear fluid comes out. Often need to push on my belly when on the toilet to get the wind out, but the relief only lasts minutes.
I'm active and gym 4 times per week. Do yoga regularly. Drink only water and Peppermint tea. Have tried peppermint capsules, turmeric tablets, grated ginger in any food I make. I'm on a low fodmap diet. Had cameras and stool samples and blood tests all come back as normal.
My symptoms are constant, every day regardless of what I eat or don't. There never seems to be a particular trigger.
I feel I've tried everything imaginable and have run out of options.
Does anyone have similar symptoms and if so do you have any advice for me please?
Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear you're going through this. I've had the same symptoms for a few years now. Have you gotten a Helicobacter Pylori test done? My symptoms have gotten slightly better after my GP treated me for that. I'm also taking Buscopan regularly. Good food habits and exercise help - not immediately but eventually you'll see very slow progress. I know how challenging this is and hope you feel better soon!
I have the same symptoms but not regularly just when I don’t notice my diet. And when I get these I take mebeverine and after 2 hours I take buscopan and I drink chamomile tea it helps with IBS.
I take buscapam, over the years mebeverine stopped working, I tried peppermint oil but had an opposite effect, then in 2016 told I had a hiatus hernia, no more peppermint, and no more painkiller called Nsaids like ibropufen, banned by my doctor. In uk there is little else to control IBS buy my Diazapam, a know relaxant, does help.
I have hiatus hernia as well and with IBS’s symptoms some days it’s be a disaster because the acid reflux increases and nothing of medication works . peppermint Its not good especially you have hiatus hernia but chamomile tea is better .
Hi thanks for reply. yes peppermint oil is actually an astringent. my doctor put me on omeprazole, but Im a medical guru, I tent to read up a huge amount on what I take. turns out omeprazole is only for short time use really. PPIs has a negative effect on your absorption of vitamins, some people get runny stools. fortunately My Hiatus hernia isnt too bad. But wierd my mum had it as well but bad. She was sick almost every other day, she suffered with it for years. Im manage mine by not eating after 6.30pm. Fried food is out no Mc no KFC rubbish, to cap it all my Diverticular likes to give me wind like no tomorrow. so Im always struggling one way or other. those two problems I didnt even know i had, it was only because in 206 17 I was admitted to hospital along with wife with Community acquired Pneumonia, that scans showed I had both....conditions...hope you managing. hope you have a good and happy new year
I was prescribed Sim Alvia which is both a smooth muscle relaxant and also a flatulence inhibitor. Both Meberevine and Buscopan did nothing for me. I have learned to take it sparingly - normally one per night when I wake with bowel pressure caused by gas and or spasming muscle.
Depending on your type of IBS (which I'm guessing is IBS C) I'd recommend one or two kiwi fruit per day eaten with a spoonful of ground flax seeds with a zero fat yoghurt. This was recommended to me by a dietician and significantly improved my gut motility.
The third strategy which I find helps are forms of meditation and yoga which train you to lose tension in your gut. I've largely self taught but the Nerva app is a good start in term of routining sections of the day where you train thought patterns.
It's an absolute pain. I get gurgle first thing morning, symptoms consist of each day being normal to constipation, odd sharp little pains on one side or other, and wind I struggle with, as I have arthritis hip, which severely affects my mobilty, so sitting too much, builds up wind which is very uncomfortable. Trying to keep to any sort of diet is hardly worth the trouble, but have knocked fried anything out. I drink cranberry juice, mineral water but like my cloudy lemonade. Sometimes I really get fed up looking for food I may be able to eat. I also have diverticular, which means most nuts, corn on the cob certain peas are out. I do eat greens, just not broccoli. Very few beans now, rice is my most used food that gives less trouble. I take buscapam for some relief. Anything peppermint is a no go as I have hiatus hernia. My advice is try or use trusted foods you can eat. Another tip is avoid mushrooms, they are very hard to digest, like onions, they can be passed partly digested. Wishing everybody a good new year
Hi yes mushrooms are one to avoid I cant eat nuts as My diverticular may get one or two stuck and give me a problem. but love my rice in most forms but not wholemeal rice. a very good and painless new year to you
hi , I get the same symptoms and find that estrolel gel drink helps (simicone) not sure if spelt right but worth checking it out as it’s good or if you can get pepto-bismol it’s great for your symptoms hope this helps
I have had similar symptoms for 60 years. I have been taking mebeverine, Buscopan and peppermint capsule daily. They do help but on some occasions nothing does and you feel completely washed out with everything. A few years ago I went on a gluten free diet which helped enormously and I have not seen mucus since. Then this year I had a flare up with colitis which left me with IBS flare up. I’m still suffering with this, the wind and loud tummy sounds can be very embarrassing but cutting out dairy, onions, garlic and raw apple have now helped. It seems I have a very sensitive gut which is getting worse as I get older, now 71. First diagnosed when I was 12.
A change of diet seems to help me but on the other hand the more I cut out the more sensitive I become to that group of foods.
onions and GARLIC. worst enemy!! i have had the conditions of tummy troubles since 25. im also 72 now. Loud tummy noises are horrible, partly subside when I eat , sometimes being empty can make the wind and noise worse, i get the odd onion piece I happen to eat with our fresh cooked chicken curry and rice from our well loved chinese for last 10 years. I often find a pea or a tiny piece of onion on my loo paper. both hard to digest for likes of us. peas are good for you, in small amounts. and well chewed. I dont eat much fruit a banana at times, but citrus fruits is out as i have Hiatus hernia, oranges have a lot of acidity, I avoid all citrus fruits.
