Hi,

This is a long story... basically I suffered with anorexia bulimia nervosa for 8 years. Recovery was hard and really affected my digestive system I’ve been recovered for around 6 years. I believe I suffer with bad IBS last year I was bleeding after Bowel movement and was Sent for a colonoscopy. I was then diagnosed with solitary rectal ulcer syndrome, my bowels have never been normal since I recovered, I am just wondering if there is anyone that can relate or having similar issues or anyone on here who also has rectal ulcer syndrome? Apologise if I’m posting in the wrong place.

Thank you guys x

Hi I’m currently recovering from anorexia & been having the same things as you have described. I’ve noticed blood quite a few times after bowel movements & I am extremely terrified is doesn’t help either as I suffer badly with health anxiety. Just wondering if you notice a lot of slime/mucous sometimes orangey red with your bowel motions

Hello my lovely,

When I first started to recover, I couldn’t go to the toilet at all and I really struggled. When I did finally start going I had bad Diarrhea and bleeding this went on for a while. I went to my gp and I had an endoscopy where I was diagnosed with a hiatus hernia which was caused my making myself vomit so many times over the years. I still didn’t feel better and my bowels have always been funny since, years went by and I would be in pain when going to the toilet and would be on the loo for hours. I started noticing bleeding again but quite a lot which worried me, I went back to doctor and they referred me for a colonoscopy last June. It was then I was diagnosed with Rectal ulcers, I always have mucus after Bowel movements which is quite a common sign of ibs and ulcers. Digestive problems are a very common in people who have suffered with an ED, I also suffer with health anxiety and I can totally relate to you. Bleeding can be from piles or fissures in the rectum, I most definitely had bleeding and mucus through recovery. If it continues I would speak to your gp as they can help ease this, you’re very brave for beginning your recovery and should be super proud of yourself. If you need any support or advice I am happy to help you. X
