Sciatica treatment

Hello, this is my first post and I hope you can help. Five weeks ago I was prescribed Oramorph for Sciatica. This has messed up my whole sleep pattern. I am getting 2 to 3 hours of broken sleep. (Usually a good 8 hours). The pain is now manageable with Naproxen and Paracetamol so I have come off the Oramorph and the doctor has given me a short course of a sleeping pill Diphenhydramine. Five days in and I haven’t seen any sleep - wide awake from going to bed till 4am + and feel shattered through the day. Can anyone tell me how long this opioid will be in my system? The doc also prescribed CARBOCISTEINE for sinus as my nasal passages were filling up which didn’t help getting to sleep. As Diphenhydramine contains an antihistamine I am not taking my usual antihistamine XYZAL which I take every day. I know I shouldn’t be surprised with all the combinations of drugs but I am getting very stressed.

Thank you

If diphenhydramine doesn’t help you try promethazine it’s another drowsy antihistamine. I never found diphenhydramine to help me but promethazine was best for me just takes a little while to get the Dow’s right. Sominex (I didn’t spell it right) is 20 my of promethazine it comes in 10 or liquid where it’s eaiser to personally dose. It’s non addictive and I take it as a sedative to help my anxiety but I’m thinking of cutting the 25 mg tabs because 25 mg makes me like a zombie still need to research if that can be done
