I am wondering if any of you have any suggestions on how to cope with the nausea associated with ibs.
I have had a flare since Christmas Day which is getting worse. I am now having poos ten times a day and through the night which is leaving me exhausted. I can cope with the poos but I really can’t cope with the nausea. I sit with a bucket for hours on end not actually being sick but feeling so close. All I can manage is sips of water. I can’t eat which then builds up the acid in my stomach which then makes my diarrhoea worse. It’s a vicious circle.
Any advice on how to help the nausea would be greatly received. I have made an appointment for 2 weeks time with the doctor but really can’t wait that long as I am losing weight too.

Hi have you tried anti sickness tablets even travel sickness tablets. I recently had to buy some from feeling like i was going to be sick aswell alot and it helped me so much.
I know you have an appointment booked but I would see if you can get a doctor to give you a call back. Most surgeries these days, you can request a doctor to call you. They've given me cyclizine for when I'm sick or feel sick. I also have tried travel sickness pills but they're no where near as effective but can help a little.
I'd call the doctor's first thing in the morning and request a home visit or a call back from a doctor and not wait - particularly so they can check for an infection. Sometimes nausea can be due to trapped wind and products containing Simeticone can help such as Rennie Deflatine.
For longer term, have you been referred to a dietitian to take you through the fodmap diet so you can avoid these flares? Have you been under extra stress since Christmas that could be causing this current flare?
I'd try ringing you gp & get a prescription for anti nausea meds, I was put on Zofran 4mg 3 tabs a day, like you I get extreme nausea but don't vomit. I hope you get it sorted & feel better soon.
Hi, your situation sounds horrible really horrible there's nothing worse than being imprisoned by the toilet. The doctor is deffinatly going to have to do a calprotectin test to check for levels of inflammation in your intestine. If levels are over 200 they will most likely send you for a colonoscopy just to check things out. Maybe a H pylori test will be beneficial it's a bacterial we all have in our body but it feeds on the food we eat and causes horrible acid reflux synptoms and makes us feel sick when it's not happy. In the meantime mostly consume foods that are not going to irritate your gut furthur, go for chicken soups/vegetable soups, white rice, meat and we'll cooked veg or fish. (Avoid dairy/gluten) Ginger is naturally great for nausea it's been scientifically proven to calm your stomach just don't take too much, it may also help with your motility. In the meantime try to relax sip on soup, eat plain foods and don't overthink it I know it's horrible when your in such pain. Good luck
I was prescribed Domperidone for my nausea, it worked very well. Meanwhile, ginger really does help, sipping ginger tea or nibbling on a gf ginger biscuit (Nairn's make a really good one) will help. I also take ginger tablets. For the diarrhoea, can you take Imodium for a few days, just to give yourself a break? My consultant said it was ok to take one every day if necessary. I had to do this for a while last year but currently am a lot better and only take one as a preventative if I'm going somewhere where I know I can't guarantee getting to a toilet quickly eg train journey, cinema, long motorway drive. I hope your symptoms calm down soon.
