Hunger Pains, Help!

I have just recently started the Low FODMAP Diet and it's worked wonders however I'm always hungry and the urge to indulge is my downfall, putting me back to square one. If anyone has any suggestions on how to battle these hunger pains i'd love some ideas?!

Eat small low fodmap meals and snacks more often and drink lots of water. I eat every 2-3 hours

Hey! Potatoes and rice, these are high carb and very very low fodmap, you can literally eat until stuffed. Try to eat a high carb with every meal :) also Google 'fodmarket' if you're in the UK, tons of low fodmap snacks to buy and serving size recommendations :) so happy its helping you!

Hi Meg

I am so glad the fodmap diet is working for you. I am now 18 months into it and quite heavily personalized - I can tolerate lactose and fructose foods (pears, plums etc..) are also generally fine in my case. My GI health is so much better.

My advice is look at cuisines you always liked and adapt your old favourite recipes when you can. I work long days and I also need to avoid feeling hungry all the time. I do a pack lunch meal that is like a Japanese Katsu Curry, a cooked chicken breast, rice and probably some carrots. It's really quick and very filling - I use a chilli sauce which has no garlic in it, which is a must.

Other simple things that will keep hunger at bay are jacket potato's, maybe with a topping including tuna. The protein foods (as long as you are not vegan) will keep you full.

I also still keep a fodmap food diary, I use the Tummi FODMAP app. I found that a huge help in sticking with the diet, fodmap is not that easy, but the benefits are amazing!

Good Luck!

Agree with Donna - whilst Fodmap can restrict options focus on building sufficient protein into it and you won't go hungry or loose way. I found the Monash App really helpful to get going - the Tummi FODMAP app is an awesome way to track your food sensitivities. I still use it from time to time to track and understand occasional flare-ups.
