Hello everyone - I'm new here. Nice to meet you all. Sorry but to warn you in advance this may be difficult reading!
I have had IBS for the best part of five years. Its not intolerable - in fact I mostly have it under control (I believe it is mostly triggered by stress.)
The one symptom I can't shake is leakage from my bum after a bowel movement. I'll go the the loo in the morning, will wipe extremely well - but then I always have a small amount of light coloured discharge - maybe a combination of mucus/poo.
This symptom started quite suddenly in 2013 and hasn't improved or got worse since. The Doc seemed to think it was due to sphincter muscles or something but I'm not totally convinced.
Has anyone had this rather embarrassing symptom and have found any relief from it?
Thanks!

If your GP says sphincter probs then look on line for excerises to strengthen them. If your female do the excerises and keep a little kit with you to keep you fresh.
Yes I have experienced that. For me it was being bloated all the time that appeared to cause it. Definitely not nice. I don't know what fixed it but do know it went on for some time. Not had a relapse in years and put this down to finally getting rid of the extreme bloating along with the required dietary change to calm the IBS. I also got it without bowl movement and plenty of exercise. I guess it was all about back pressure!
Just don't over do the exercise. With IBS it is everything in moderation, don't over eat and stay away from problem foods. I have gotten myself to a place that I can now eat more types of food than when I first started down the IBS road. I'm up to 60% of my daily food requirements after 5 years or so. I can still do a lot of what I used to do but have noticed the strength is not what it used to be. But then I'm still stronger than my friends. The early muscle depletion doesn't hold me back, it just takes 3 times as long to recover from my rash decisions to do what I shouldn't!
I get it occasionally I have discovered it's when I need a bm, but mine is clear and odourless. You could try pelvic floor exercises that tightens every thing up down there if your a female. Also use wet toilet wipes ordinary toilet paper can be very abrasive but dont put the wipes down the loo.it can block your loo.
That's interesting to know. I had lactose intolerence when I was a baby but seemed to grow out of it. I have not tried eliminating dairy so will give this a whirl! Thanks!
My husband does not have ibs l do but he has this problem exactly!! He's been to doc an gastro was sent for injections in his ankle that serve nerve in bum to help but made no difference just keeps cleaning
