I got diagnosed with IBS on April. Everything started because I got piles that lasted for more than a month, visited my doctor and he prescribed me with trimebutine, Pinaverium Bromide and some fiber supplements. Supposedly because I was terribly bloated.
I said hello to my IBS and goodbye to lactose, legumes and gluten among other things.
The thing is, the IBS medication started to make me experience bloating, gases and terrible abdominal pain, symptoms that I didn't have before!
and hemorroids didn't go away at all. On my last checkup doctor even told me that I had an anal fissure that I'm trying to treat but gets worse everytime my period comes.
i've been feeling miserable for the past 6 months.
I poop everyday, but I keep bleeding, it keeps hurting badly.
Recently I decided to stop taking my IBS medication, and the abdominal pain and gasses went away. I feel great overall...until it's time to poop or to get my period.
Tried to visit other doctors but they keep insisting on IBS they only tell me to consume more fiber and drink more water, which I do! but it isn't helping. Poop might be really soft but I still bleed and hurt.
Was I misdiagnosed? Why does the medication made me feel so terrible? and most importantly why do I keep getting rectal conditions everytime I get my period?

Us ladies are unlucky because all our bits are in the same region so we don't really know if its our womb or bowel which is causing the problem, suggest keeping a diary may help so we have proof to go back to our GP and ask him/her to do more tests on bowel or womb
Hi there - have you discussed endometriosis with your doc? This can cause bowel issues due to adhesions and would make symtoms worse during your period. Unfortunately while an internal scan of womb can be useful only a laposcropy can tell if this is your issue. If not already maybe try a contraceptive pill that stops periods to see if that helps...
Because your bits are close to each other, it is possible to have one affect the other. Have you been seen by a GI consultant, and have you had a Calprotectin test? It doesn't sound as though IBS is an accurate diagnosis of your condition.
Hi Adridlt, please do get a blood test and CT scan insist on it even it’s the blood test first. I was misdiagnosed and currently writing this from a hospital bed after surgery.
You need to go back and insist on a referral to a gastroenterologist. It sounds like you may have a tear so I assume the blood is bright red and not dark?
I find it annoying that Dr's now give a blanket diagnosis of IBS for any bowel related symptoms.
I suffered from ibs for a year and continue to suffer. I have had bloating, diarrohea, gas, and even several times black and red stools. I feared i have smth serious. But some days ago i got colonoscopy and endoscopy. Doctor found nothing serious in my colon. Just a mild hemmorhoids. So my advice is to calm and get checked, i was also under huge stress
I've been under a lot of stress lately as well, and I know it plays a huge role on this kind of situations, I haven't done colonoscopy because my doctor insist I don't need it
In order for you to avoid stress you must insist on it. I used to always look at my stool, and was under stress. But now i am not stressed and do not even look at it. I am sure you have nothing serious. I thought i may have colon cancer, it had all the symptoms. But ibs can do all of these symptoms to a person. So cheer up and stay positive and try to get colonoscopy , just to calm down.
The conditions are there all the time, they don't come and go with your period, this just exasperates it, go back to the doctor and demand to see a colorectal surgeon.
