Bloating worse after pooping

Does anyone feel worse after they have a poop? I have had bad constipation for a couple of months now and finally produced something more substantial this morning. But then I was really bloated afterwards, and struggled to eat my lunch. although I did, and now I still feel too full to contemplate eating dinner. This has happened before. The classic description of IBS is that you feel better after a poop, but I often feel worse, and it gets me down.

There seems to be no literature on this or answers as to why it might be the case. Anyone got ideas? Thanks.

Yes, I know the classic "picture" of IBS is that we feel better after a #2.

I can say that yes, often or most times I do. But there are also times when I can feel weird, exhausted, a bit shaky, uneasy in my belly, get gripy pains like trapped wind, and even get that lower tummy swelling come up after a poop.

I got that same thing the last two days. Felt worse after a #2 in the morning.

I know with me it'll go away any time now, but it's bound to occur again at some point in the future...weeks or even months ahead, for a few days.

Because that's the way my particular IBS messes up my life! It comes and goes with all its various features on its own whim and fancy. None of them 99% of the time make any sense and I've come to the conclusion it's hardly worth wasting brain energy on trying to figure out "why" !!

You are so right Luisa I have just about given up trying to figure anything out about my IBS, had colonoscopy two weeks ago and nothing much has changed! The consultant says I still have blockages in both bowels which explains my morning pains which normally go after a bowel movement with often needs an enema. I was reassured about no cancer now it looks like sorting out which laxatives work for me…or maybe I will need a further colonoscopy to see if I can clear the bowels! So I have IBS and diverticulitis! Happy days

Do you have to go to hospital or Docs every time you need an enema, or can it be done at home??

At home I buy MICROLAX on Amazon - my consultant said to use them when I need to. If I am going out for the day and can’t go they are my life saver!

I was diagnosed with IBS 28 years ago and it would give me pain after eating and relief after a No. 2.

In the last 8 years I have had more problems and recently after a No 2 I can ache for hours. Recently I have been waking in pain and the pain has lasted all day and been unremitting. Turns out I had a kidney stone. I get a bit fed up nowadays that the medical professionals must look at our notes and just put everything down to IBS or Diverticular disease rather than taking the time to find out if anything else is going on alongside the IBS. The bladder problems I have had have really affected the bowel problems but it has only just been acknowledged.

Ask for a CT scan to check for anything else.

I have passed the kidney stone and now the bowel pain has subsided and I am back to my usual after a No2. Wonderful to back to my normal. It was only a 3mm kidney stone but it really affected me badly.

Yes especially if I haven't been for 2 or 3 days. I think for me its the force of trying to poop it causes gas and bloating. I've had it roughly 30 odd years. As I've got older the constipation side has spiked with more symptoms. I now have acid reflux and some lactose intolerance which I've only had for the last 5 years ish. I also have dirrahea if I've eaten something that causes a trigger for me. I for the life of me can't work it all out anymore. I'm just careful with food and drink and hope for the best. Nightmare.
