Headache, nauseous and generally feeling unwell

Sometimes with my ibs I feel so unwell with headache, nausea, abdominal pain, trapped wind with or without constipation, bloating and feeling drained of energy, it passes but it takes a while. Can anyone else relate especially with nausea but not necessarily throwing up.

I have only ever vommitted once in the 52 years I have had IBD. When I have a flare, I generally, feel nauseas, pain and generally yuck. I have even been admitted with absolutely perfect bloods and X-Rays, but just feeling yuck, and the last time this happened, I needed an operation which lasted 10+1/2 hours, to sort me out and in the end save my life. Please people, if you don't feel right, stick to your guns, you know your body better than doctors and X-Ray machines.

Hi I can completely relate to you. I also suffer with headaches and constant nausea without actually vomiting. I also suffer a feeling of intense bloating and my stomach swells to a huge size , gurgling and feelings of fullness after having something very small to eat. I haven’t got a cure for the symptoms but I am still trying to identify foods that make this worse and I’m aware that for me, garlic is a no no along with caffeine. Peppermint tea seems to help however and windease over the counter tablets. I’ve tried mebrobine and ranitidine from the gp and none made a difference to me. Writing down trigger foods/drinks helps to avoid these and also mindfulness for stress can also help reduce symptoms for me. I hope you find a way that works for you as I appreciate the nausea just makes you feel so unwell 😩

My son suffers extreme nausea with flare up and then just day to day has to eat little and often to keep nausea at bay. His consultant prescribed Ondansetron for when nausea gets bad but he luckily hasn’t had to take it yet but has it ready for next flare up.

Can really help especially the ones that dissolve in your mouth

Yes I can, although I don't suffer anymore. Your gut is essentially your second brain and there is a lot going on down there, this will definitely send various feelings of discomfort around your body just as it would send all good stuff when your gut is in great shape.

All of the symptoms mentioned in the title, I suffer from. I have nausea every day from 6am-midday, had it every day for 12 years. I've never been sick one, but regularly wish I could be. The nausea for me is similar to the feeling of food poisoning.

I'm lucky that I can take amitripline & it takes my nausea away. The nausea is easily my worst symptom but the medication takes it away, although it's obviously only a supressent. I'm trying to find other ways to manage the nausea. I have a theory at the moment that my stomach acid isn't right, so I'm working on that.

Headaches come part & parcel with IBS for me as well, plus the generally feeling unwell. I usually feel like I'm 100s of years old :(

Yes I totally get the nausea too. Now that I'm finally examining it rather than ignoring it, I'm going to log what I ate the night before a morning attack.....maybe a culprit might be revealed.

Yes it gets that bad I have to make myself sick to feel better.

Since having food poisoning back in November last year from rice my IBS changed completely.

I've had a Colonoscopy, Ultrasound and Endoscopy plus a myriad of blood tests and two stool tests, all came back clear.

My symptoms since the foid poisoning gave been nausea, diarrhoea and indigestion which at times have been debilitating. I've never actually been sick, I wasn't even sick when I had the food poisoning, just severe nausea and diarrhoea.

I saw a Nutritionis, which the doctor didn't think much of what she said, and she said I had a high sensitivity to gluten, rye, barley and yeast, I had a medium sensitivity to peas. I've now cut out gluten, yeast and more recently peas. I'm not better yet but from what I've read online you can get gluten withdrawal so I think that's what I've been suffering.

I've since paid for a Gut Biome test and should get the results in about 3 weeks. I'm going to report back here to let everyone know how I got on.

On another note, I've found that Stugeron travel sick tablets work well for nausea. I also drink Kombucha for the gut and would like to start making my own Kefir.

I really hope you can find something that works for you, I think we are all learning with this awful, debilitating illness.

Take care

Yes, I feel very unwell and occasionally have to stay in bed all day. I am about to try an exclusion diet based on FODMOP to see if that helps. I hope you can find some help...I find the trapped wind particularly uncomfortable and inconvenient. Best wishes

Everything you are describing is exactly what I've been going through for a year. Debilitating nausea, loose stools, upset stomach, gurgling intestines, etc. I have found that the FODMAP diet doesn't help and I don't have any food triggers--symptoms no matter what I eat. Hope you find something that works. I'll be following your journey since it could help me as well :)

I started off with the runs every other week back in January with normal stool movements between. It then started happening every week. Then every couple of days in May. May was the worst month. In May, the nausea started which hadn't happened before. Only once did I projectile vomit in my bathroom. One doctor told me it's because I'm a woman and it's all in my head as to why I am suffering this way. Safe to say I decided to see someone else. I was told to take laxatives every day. This was after what you described began happening. The runs had become less frequent but constipation had set in. It's awful. I've even had people pat my back like you do a baby to see if any trapped wind comes up. Recently a different doctor told me to stop taking laxatives as I began having chest pain with the nausea and heart palpitations. Acid reflux has come back with a vengeance, runs and cramps hit me like a truck on Saturday for two full days. It's exhausting. I have kept a food diary, it's random when it happens. I want to do the York test to see what comes back however it is so expensive. I live in fear of the next attack. Headaches and what I can only describe as being like motion sickness rather than full on nausea happened today. Still happening now. I just don't know what to do anymore.
