Hi I’m recovering from my first bad IBS flareup in over a year. 8 hours of agony at home. Up all night with acute stomach pain, being sick and going to the toilet to literally try and squeeze anything out to make the pain stop sorry if tmi! I know I’m lucky compared to other IBS sufferers on here. The pain was frightening and took me completely by surprise. I take buscopan and omeprazole daily and follow a low Fodmap diet but on reflection took my eye off the ball and ate a combination of some ‘wrong things’ for me yesterday ...never again. The pain was excruciating like someone was squeezing and twisting my bowel. I couldn’t lie down or sit and spend the night pacing up and down gripping my tummy or on the toilet. I didn’t take any meds for fear of being sick. I’ve since slept a few hours and now sipping boiling water. I’ve taken 2 buscopan after reading other threads and 2 paracetamol (I cant take ibuprofen) recommended by NHS 24. My stomach bloated and sore.
I’d be grateful for any tips to help my recovery when I’m able to reintroduce food again. I’m planning on leaving it at least 24 hours 😕

Wow! Hard to believe that you have not had a reply. I hope you are feeling a whole lot better. It sounds like you are doing all the right things, especially being gentle with your body.
I admire anyone on the Fodmap diet. Takes discipline in my opinion. I like making sure I have a little something from a list of probiotic foods every day to flood my gut with good bacteria. Easy to do. It cured months and months of the runs, bloating and discomfort.
Well, your stomach has been through hell, just after being blocked up. It's probably feeling battered and bruised right now. Just like your bowel. You're only just recovering, so don't get in too much of a hurry to re-introduce solid food. It can't always happen as quick as the next day, soon after getting better. I suggest having only light texture foods-Soup, yoghurt, crisps, noodles, ice cream *if you're not allergic to dairy*, ice pops, jelly, etc. It's more to do with the textures of the food, so don't have anything stodgy right now, because that would just send your bowel back into chaos mode. So no sandwiches, pizza, pasta, mashed potato, etc. Yes it sucks, but only do this until you stop passing really big stools.
