Anxiety

Hi everyone. I have had on and off stomach problems for quite a few years now. I was prescribed antibiotics (oxytertacyline) for acne and ever since my stomach pains have been getting worse. I have come off of these now. My doctor thinks I have IBS so I am awaiting blood test results to rule out other conditions. Does anybody else get really anxious when it comes to leaving the house? I feel as though I keep myself locked up constantly as I am so nervous that I will get pain and need to go toilet when I am out. It is so embarrassing. How do you control your symptoms? Have you changed your diet?

Does it stop the pain aswell as the diarrhoea? As I get both so often feel better after going to the toilet. Definitely need to take soemthing to prevent going toilet though as it gets very embarrassing

Hi, I'm in the same position as you waiting to get a definite diagnosis on what i actually have. I'm 18 and it's impacted my social life quite heavily mainly due to the pain and restricted diet. What has worked wonders for me so far is anti-anxiety medication which i was previously on before. I managed to go out and enjoy myself with only minimal to mild pain. My tips are to always take your time eating and drinking when you're out and avoid any place without a decent toilet facility just in case. I also carry Buscopan and paracetamol around with me at all times and that soothes my mind too. Half the battle is in the head and the anti anxeity medication really helps your drive and tackle each day face on.

I get this too. I’m 19. I try to avoid going out as much as possible, and when I do go out I almost always get pain (especially if it involves going to a restaurant). I have tied buscopan but it doesn’t work for me but I do take paracetamol too and it does sometimes prevent the pain. I’m trying a low formal diet which my doctor recommended. I was also prescribed anxiety medication but decided not to take it:( only because I don’t want to be taking any medication that could mess up my stomach even more like the antibiotics have! My Ibs never used to be this bad! It’s so hard at this age:( thank you for the advice!

If you have been on antibiotics that will kill good and the bad bacteria in the gut

Get some probiotics ASAP hopefully should help also try digestive enzymes for help with digestion

Also try cutting out known triggers

Caffeine , chocolate, artificial sweeteners , Dairy have a look on line gluten

Obviously not all at once 😊

Try writing a food diary too to see what you react to

I tried apple cider vinegar few drops in warm water look up online

Good luck cxx

I have been taking acidophilus but doesn’t seem

To have helped. Do you recommend a particular type of probiotics? Yes I’m cutting out chocolate as it seems to be one of my main triggers. So hard as it’s my favourite. Thank you xx

I was taking acidophilus for months then when I paid for a comprehensive stool test it showed I had hardly any good bacteria in my gut. The probiotics were only 3 billion parts. Now I'm on 20 billion and need to gradually get up to 450 billion. I also found I have two parasites. Antibiotics could have wiped out your good bacteria.

Sorry to hear that

I know that apparently some probiotics can make it worse if you have sibo or similar 😟

Good luck xxx
