Had any one tried the drug " Zofran " active ingredient ( Ondansetron ) for the treatment of IBS/D symptoms ??
I have received an offer to participate in a trial called the " Triton Study " to test how well this drug works for IBS/D patients based on past experiences and observations with positive results in addition to a previous established study back on 2014 that exhibited marked improvements among participants .
Unfortunately, i don't live in the UK ..So I couldn't be an acceptable candidate to this offer .
it's actually an anti nausea / sickness medicine but also they noticed that in low doses it can alleviate the symptoms of IBS/D ..here is a link to a trial showing the effectiveness of Zofran on IBS /D patients
yeah i know these drugs ..i talked to my doctor about it and he refused to prescribe them to me !! claiming it's indicated only for ( post -operative diahrrea ) like when you remove your gallbladder , in addition they lower cholesterol levels which is already very low in my case , actually under the normal range due to being underweight ( i weigh only 39 kg )
Yes...I've heard this before...ridiculous to only prescribe for post-operative diarrhea....that's just ridiculous and very narrowminded. Anyway, these will lower your cholesterol, but they are always taken with a statin, because they are not effective to lower cholesterol on their own by very much....anyway...good luck..I wish you the very best!
Thank you ! and yess i'm struggling with doctors as much as my illness ..they just can't understand the dilemma that i battle each day ..definitely will search for another doctor !!
Hi, I know this is an older post, but wanted to look at some older posts to see if I myself could find something, anything I may missed out on..but I'm on the other end with chronic and severe IBS-C. Did the Zofran ever work?
Hi Eliana , Sorry for the late response ..well i have the habit of reading the leaflet of any medicine before starting on it , in addition to Google search ..and i found out ( in the attached leaflet plus online search ) that it can cause " Sudden loss of vision " and since we have an inherited weak retina in my family ( my grand father is blind as well as 2 of his sons " my uncles" and a cousin who is also blind and me my self have a weak retina susceptible to tissue tearing that might detach any time as my doctor explained ..So i paused and thought i couldn't bear being blind on top of all my other debilitating disorders !!
I really wanted to try this and hoped it may work but was too scared to take the risk 😓
You and me both. It's very frustrating. Meanwhile, my next door neighbor with Ulcerative colitis (she now has "J Pouch"), gets on great medicine, can eat what she wants, pizza, cheeseburgers, steak hoagies. No isolating in her room chained to get toilet like me. While I'm in pain, lonely, isolated and constipated..and have to stay in all weekend as my laxative "Senna" day. Now, I'm sitting here on a Friday, everyone has plans including her..while I'm dreading yet another lonely laxative weekend. 7 years now. I can do relate. Life is certainly not fair sometimes, I have even stopped praying for healing.
