impacted bowel problem

My poor mum who is 93 has had a fall. She damaged her back quite severely and has been on strong doses of morphine whilst in hospital alongside a cocktail of antibiotics. This and alongside a swallowing difficulty whereby she can only eat and drink small amounts has lead to an impacted bowel. In hospital she has been given several enemas, movical and sennacot but with no effect. It is now 9 days since her last bowel movement and I am very worried for her. Is there any other treatment available?

Hi Greenerish, this sounds just like my mum. She is 92 and had a fall in the bath, hurt her back and is in hospital. She can only manage tiny amounts of food too. She has had a scan because they thought she had an impacted bowel but it was clear. If you are in UK, I am sure you will get appropriate care. Just wanted you to know you are not alone.
