Hi
I was just wondering if anyone has taken Gastrografin orally before a CT colonoscopy? I’ve got to start taking it soon and I’m a bit of a worrier so wondering if anyone can share their experiences of taking it.
Thanks!

Yes, it’s preferred to barium because if there is any possibility of say a perforated diverticula it is safe, Ive had it with no problems at all.

I had no problems with it at all - stay at home for the day but don't worry. You'll not feel great, because it's a clear out and you're worried. But honestly I would do it again with a lot less anxiety about it than I had the first time. All the best.
Hi hopefully it’s going ok? I had to take the first dose in the ct department to check I was ok I guess. She said it can cause mild diahoriah in some people lol hahaha I just got home about 15 mins away! No stomache ache or nausea which I get with everything! But the runs continued and I wore a tenna pant incase lol I didn’t need it but it made me feel more secure lol it was a rip off a friend
I’m feeling a bit better now but am not looking forward to the next dose. I know what you mean about the laxative effect - I’ve taken all kinds and none has worked as quickly as this. I think it would have been lots better for me if I had been asked to do that...I’ve just been sat here worrying...the CT dept is closed on Sunday’s so there wasn’t even anyone to call!
Was ment to say a tip off a friend lol
I figured that and will be following their tip too 😊
Hope your ok thinking of u I had this procedure after a failed colonoscopy, it was. Wet quick and more preferable! If I had to choose!!!
Thank you for checking in on me - very kind of you!! It all went ok...I skipped the Buscopan so there was some pain but it didn’t last long. Fingers crossed that’s me done with scans too. Mine was after a failed colonoscopy as well so fingers crossed there isn’t anything showing that makes them need to have another go 😊
