Hi, just wondering if anyone has tried silicol gel? If so what are your thoughts? I suffer with ibs d, and at the minute I keep it under control with Imodium, but because I'm taking them daily, I'm finding they are sending me the other way! Is this an option to take instead of Imodium ?
Silicol gel?: Hi, just wondering if anyone has... - IBS Network
Silicol gel?
Hi,
The jury's still out on Silicol Gel, some people find it helps and others, like me, find it has no effect whatsoever. Best thing to do is to cross your fingers and give it a go - you might be one of the lucky ones!
Have you tried the low-FODMAP diet, it helps a great many people on here?
Rosie
No, I haven't tried that, have read bits about it..will have a good look into it and maybe give that a go. I tend to find my ibs is brought on by anxiety rather than a food trigger, but still might be worth a try.
Have you mentioned the anxiety issue to your GP as a mild anti-depressant may help you?
FODMAPs is a very tough regime for at least the first 6 weeks and if you don't really need to put yourself through it, you shouldn't. If you decide to go for it anyway, ask for a referral to an NHS dietitian who will help you with it.
Rosie
Sorry, have only just noticed your reply. No I haven't really mentioned anxiety to my gp, have really just been seeing how I go, which I'm finding harder and harder to cope with, I think that will be my next resort, but ideally don't want to go down that route but if it helps then so be it.
Picked up a bottle of silicolgel today, so will see how I get on with that.
My husband has ibs c/d along with diverticuliti.
Tried silicolgel 6 months ago. Is not looking back finds it eliviates the stomach cramps.
Best regards
I'm the same as you with Imodium being my saviour. I started Silicol this week to stop the flare ups. I rang to explain I was also taking Symprove and they said to only take 5ml 3 times a day instead of the 15ml. Will keep you posted. Good luck.
I have replied to Stine and Littlemissbee about my anxiety and stress triggered IBS on the latter's thread so I won't bore you with my full story! Silicolgel is very helpful to my IBS d. I have one spoonful a day. Two if going out into an anxiety causing situation. My experience led me to work with then.
Contact silicol.co.uk they are very helpful.
Hi. I really thought I had responded to this link all ready so apologies if you have heard this before.
My son was very ill after taking antibiotics and ended up being diagnosed with IBS some 6 months later and Eosinophilic oesophagitis. In the meantime it got that bad we went to a good intolerance expert. To cut a very long story short she suggested silicoll gel (amongst other things) before meals. Whilst it took 6 months and was very expensive it has worked a treat. It is NOT a quick fix. One month will not help. Gradually over time you notice the pains haven't been so bad and that you are not going to the toilet as much. A definite improvement was noticed after 3 months but 6 months was key. I wonder how many who say this product didn't work for them took it for that long and before everything they ate? It is laborious but if you are in agony and you can afford it (that's the key) then do it and don't give up. Good luck and best wishes
Hello there
I bought silicol gel to try but for me it madethe stomach rumblings and intestinal gas worse so i had to stop it. I found this strange as iv never heard anyone have negative effects xx
I have just purchased a bottle, so will keep you informed on how I get on! Fingers crossed it helps!!
I have used silicol gel for 6 months now. Just one spoonful on a morning and I rarely get diarrhea now but I do still get lots of trapped wind and bloating.
