Hi, wondering if anyone else has experienced burning/stinging after urination when taking peppermint oil tablets? It feels exactly like that minty kinda burn (like when you get the Original Source mint shower gel on your nethers accidentally)

Have got a lot of burning, stinging lately but have stopped the peppermint oil tablets so can’t be that! Feels like I’m passing acid.

Hi Hylda,

Mine isn't as bad as acid thankfully! You should probably see a doctor or try an OTC cystitis remedy. Xx

Not cystitis, had antibiotics and tried Vagisil. Beginning to wonder if it’s something to do with supplements I take.

I only take peppermint tablets as and when I need them, only for cramps. I’ve never experienced any burning!!

I take a strong peppermint capsule everyday after dinner. I’ve neber had any burning. It might be an idea to ask your doctor about it - you may have a urine infection? Do you drink plenty throughout the day?

The weird thing is it really doesn't feel like any urine infection I've had before! It doesn't /hurt/, just that kind of chilly tingly burning feeling of mint!

That’s so weird 😕. Is it still happening?

Its not all the time, every couple of days probably. But yes! The peppermint oil seems to really help for me so I'm putting up with it!

My Doctor gave me peppermint oil capsules to take before a meal for IBS but I had to stop due to exactly the same reasons you describe, I also had burning in my stomach. Doctor said I wasn't taking them properly so stuck with them but finally gave in as hated the weird sensation when I had to wee! Sorry of no help but just wanted to say that you were not alone.

Yeps I had that years ago and had to stop them. also when going for a number 2!! I now take kolantigan gel when cramps start and it really does help. My doctor hasn’t heard

Of it but still prescribed. It says on label IBS hope this helps 😊

I take that too! I discovered it a few years ago on an IBS forum. I really don’t know what I’d do without it. I also have reflux, so it helps loads. My GP had never heard of it either! I would recommend it x

Hi just seen your post about pepper mint capsules. You said it made you burn when you went for a no 2. I get that as well. Did it make your rectum ache as well after. Also burning urine.

I had to stop taking this, but it was my stomach it felt like it was on fire.x

Yes.

I'm glad you posted this as i've had stingy wee since starting colpermin 3 months ago and my wee also looks like peppermint tea also.

Don't know why i'm continuing really as they don't help👎

Can't wait to go back to the gastro to tell him this as all it's done has made my poo smell minty! Lol

in reply toMatthewr73

Just seen your reply about peppermint oil. Did it make you burn in rectum as well. Did you tell your gastro and what did he say,

Hi Jasper,

Yes it has done but not that often.

As for telling the gastro thats a total and utter joke!

In December when i last saw the gastro i was told i would be seen again within 3 months, that was 8 months and 10 days ago and i've heard absolutely NOTHING!

This is even after a stool sample showed stomach inflamatiom.

My story is probably 50 pages long of NHS bungles and fob offs, which has left me very angry.
