NAUSEA BEFORE AND AFTER EATING, IS THIS MY IBS? I feel so awful right now :(

I suffer IBS D, anyway today I suffered a bad bout of D at 4.30 (worse than how I usually can be) it left me feeling drained and nauseated so I decided to have a dry biscuit and some water which seemed to help. By early evening I was starting to feel like I could eat something but whilst I was making dinner the dreaded nausea feeling came back! I tried to eat some of my dinner but couldn't manage much. Now I'm sitting here hoping my stomach doesn't flip again! Is this IBS D related? Does anyone else get this with their IBS? I feel so damn awful right now :( god I hate IBS!! It's the absolute bane of my life. Hearing anyone else's experiences would be helpful. Thanks for reading.

I have had similar which I put down to too much lactose or sucrose - I had taken a supplement type thing which contained it. I got this twice in one week then decided to stop taking the supplement. Too much dairy stuff can cause yukky tummy upset too and I think nausea to any degree can be part of IBS. I'm no expert as still trying to work out my own symptoms/causes! It seems IBS is a complicated problem and its unpredictability is the bane of my life, also, so I very much feel for you. Sorry can't be of more help. x

Hi thanks so much for your reply! I know... the unpredictability is definitely one of the worst parts. I'm also sensitive to dairy so have to okay limit it and have lacto free stuff. I also take lactase enzymes, have you tried those? They help with the digestion of dairy. I can also find that sometimes I'm fine with a food and then the next time I eat it my stomach can't handle it, very frustrating! I feel for you also and hope that you find out more about what your triggers are. Probiotics are helpful if you haven't tried already.

I'm interested about the lactase enzymes - I've read of them but not tried them yet so think perhaps I might look into them. Do you think they would do any harm if I took them and the problem is not actually dairy/lactose intolerance? I'm never really sure but have a strong feeling I don't tolerate it too well. But like you have found, can take some things ok but then next time find I get a reaction. As I said, soooo unpredictable!!! Grrr! Not sure about probiotics because aren't they a yogurty kind of thing? So...more dairy? I must check out the ingredients! :)

Hi lovely!

Did you eat anything between the dry biscuit at 04:30 and making your dinner?

Leaving such a large gap between meals can induce nausea regardless of whether you have IBS or not. I don’t know the exact reasons though.

Over the years I’ve found Eating little and often to be much more successful than Eating three meals a day. Whenever I try to stick to three meals a day of a normal portion size I find my stomach cramps intensify and I suffer IBS D. Maybe it’s worth trying that?

I really hope you find some answers as I know how horrible it can be.

Take care x

Hi Emmy-89. Sorry for the late reply, but like you I had a bad day yesterday.Just like every day nearly always the same,So nauseated. It can be debilitating, but I’m told it’s a very common problem with ibs.I was diagnosed with ibs over 30 yrs ago and it’s just this last 3 yrs or so that the horrid nausea took hold.Sometimes I find it more harder to cope with than the ibs and that is saying something! I’m on regular cyclazine anti sickness tablets just about every few days, cannot live without them.Im sorry you have this added to your bad enough condition and more sorry I cannot help you 😟

I get nauseated after eating at times too. Yes it’s part of IBS but it comes and goes!

Good luck
