What can I do: So my doctors have said I have... - IBS Network
What can I do
It is difficult to deal with and also difficult to treat. I have gotten improvement from the FODMAP diet. It is available on the internet, but it is helpful to work on it with a dietician if you can.
If it helps, I have been taking a glass of Kefir milk from Chuckling Goat every morning and it has definitely improved my IBS, it is expensive but after 3 months there should be some improvement and then you can reduce what you take. I do try to find natural products if I can, like a good Probiotic. It’s worth looking at their website and reading about how good it is for your gut. It was also mentioned on the BBC programme, Trust Me I’m A Doctor.
Presumably Chuckling Goat kefir is from Goats milk? I saw that episode of Trust Me I'm a Doctor too and have noticed, ever since it aired, that Kefir is in all the major supermarkets now. But as you say, it is expensive if you drink one a day, although you can't put a price on your health. Do you get it from a Health Food shop?
I had chicken and rice whist I was out I have only had an hour sleep I've been in so much pain I've rang my doctors and they saying they have no appointment and I'm in so much pain it's stressful and upsetting
For the initial bloating and pain I would try either drinking peppermint tea or taking the capsules for a little relief. I too suffer like this and have to plan every meal out with precision in the run up to it to make sure I’ve not eaten anything that will antagonise my stomach and look through the menu to make sure I know what I can and can’t eat. I follow Fodmap and have cut out all dairy and found my stomach is better however I also take amitriptiliyne and loperamide as my confidence outside of the home has massively depleted due to d accidents where I’ve had no control. I hope you find some relief and get through this xx
I had water and I didn't have a desert as I had pain in belly
Hi There! have you tried eating "Gluten free "foods for a while then if things settle start introducing the odd thing as certain foods could be causing your IBS i.e. wheat and dairy it helped me.
I take amitriptyline which is the first line treatment for Fibromyalgia which I have had for years but went through a terrible spell last year with my stomach and Dr told me it was IBS which I have never ever had before. The amitriptyline my GP advised would help the stomach too.
I ended up last year in hospital with severe stomach pains and sickness (had had a couple of episodes earlier in the year) and was jaundiced, liver function levels were very high and I suspect this has caused what Dr thought was possibly IBS as I have a feeling my liver maybe wasn't right long before things came to a head ,but who knows as fibro and IBS go hand in hand.
The hospital thought it was caused by the co-codamols possibly which I have been taking for pain relief for years and was put on other meds. Ultrasound and all other liver tests were all clear. IBS (if it was that) was terrible at times, it really pulls you down. The Gluten free I felt really really helped me and it isn't as bad to take as you think as there is quite a variety of foods now. A friend advised I do this and it was great having no pains etc. I am now back onto normal eating. It is a shame your GP doesnt seem to be advising other alternatives. I took Buscopan for the cramps. Hope you feel better soon. Xx
It's annoying and upsetting as I'm at the doctors so much they send me to hospital for bloods and they come clear but the pain is awful sometimes I can't even eat cause my belly is bloated so much
Thanks I'm going to make a food diary and show my doctor when I get an appointment
Can you share with us who did your test?
A Dutch consumer programme last night investigated one where you send some hair in and get a list of intolerances. The results that came back were random: completely different results for the same person on two tests, intolerances that the subjects knew they didn't have, and intolerances that they _did_ have not spotted.
OPtibac do probiotics - I am trying one every other day of the max strength ones,. I would go easy though when I had one a day it was too much.
I have had a bit of acid reflux so I think my system was adjusting - IBS is better on it though. If you have acid reflux not sure if the best one to try.
Some people say celery juice (juiced raw celery) and papayas very good.
Possible have a look at the website. Depending on your symptoms. The optibac probiotic I take does not have FOS in it which can be a trigger for some people.
Kefir definitely worth a try from what I hear too.
