hi all - I'm guessing this is probably the best place to ask fodmap questions.
I was diagnosed with coeliac disease over a year ago and while improved I'm still fairly symptomatic. So I'm giving fodmaps a go...
My main question now (call me impatient) is to ask how long people took to get a noticeable response to the diet? I've done a couple of days but my guts have been far from bomb-proof. Tho not awful. Can it take a week or so for your body to respond or should it be fairly immediate?
And any suggestions for any ready meals? While i'm very happy generally to be cooking from scratch it would be nice to have the occasional lazy day (obviously totally gluten free too).
Depends on your triggers. It can take days or months ie if youre only sensitive to certain sugars it will take you a while to narrow down the trigger foods. I wouldn't worry too much about sticking to it rigidly as its designed to guide you toward what you should avoid. As an example, it advises to avoid onions completely. I found out onions were not a trigger but lettuce and mushrooms are bad for me. As to ready meals, avoid them for many reasons, theyre expensive, full of additives, and processed. Even basic ready meals like spaghetti carbonara which has a handful of ingredients will be loaded with thickeners, colourings etc. Meat ready meals are even worse as they use the lowest grade meats. Its a cliche and i appreciate time constraints etc but once you get the hang of your main meals its often just as easy to make them yourself. Master a handful of favourites and you'll never touch a ready meal again. Best of luck
