I have a aching pain on my left side that gets worse at night.

Some days it's so bad that my side swells and it hurts so bad, other days it's not so bad, but I can always feel it if I bend to my right side. I got a $2500 abdominal scan but they found nothing of course... This has been going on for 4 months, some nights I can not sleep because it's so painful to move. It doesn't go away even if I stretch it. It doesn't even get better even if I take Advil. I can eat clean food Or crap food and it still hurts at night. The only time it went away was when I got a deep tissue massage and she dug in my side so deep I almost cried. But I did have some relief for 2-3 days, then it came back. Maybe gal stones? But why would it get worse at night? Maybe being sedentary makes it worse, as I am pretty active during the day but not when I get home.

Any suggestions?

Hi I get similar symptoms to that. A pain below my left ribs that is so sorry I cannot lie on it & feels really uncomfortable. I've had an ultrasound and a flexible sigmoidoscopy which looks with a camera around to that area I side & nothing has shown up! My gastroenterologist is not sure what is causing it but I am seeing him in clinic in August & said he is going to start me on some medication which may help but I don't know what yet. My GP said he thinks that it is related to my IBS & I have noticed that it seems to get worse when I am stressed. It went away completely when I was on holidays abroad! I take fybogel as I get constipation but it doesn't seem to help with this pain. I think it may be inflammation causing it, hence the periodic problem. Sorry I haven't got an answer but you're not alone.

It sounds like a loop of bowel that gets gas in it, I too have a sluggish higher large colon, moving about during the day helps to distrubute the gas, and your bowel is not very active during the night which allows it to collect. I had every scan known to medical science with very little to show for it. Do you have IBS ? (D) or (C). I found out that dispite the fact that I had IBS (D) I had an impaction high up in this lazy loop, after it was cleared I got less pain in that side, I was also started on another drug which has been a godsend for me, for the first time in 18 months I feel human, can go out without planning a bathroom route and have managed to put a little weight on. I do hope you find some relief from your symptoms, have you tried a hot water bottle on the sore area? Or taking some pepermint oil capsules ?

Thank you very much for this! Ni tried heat pad and no it didn't help but the loop bowel sounds about right... I don't have IBS but I did get my tubes tied and the week after I picked up my heavy massage table a felt something, then that night I had this pain, I thought I tore something inside. So I figured that's what it was, but it only got worse not better..

any cure for this loop bowel thing??

Hi, unfortunately I don't know what this is, it could be trapped gas, which can be very painful. Gallstones would be at the right hand side. I hope you can find something that helps soon. Have you tried a hot water bottle? I find it helps with some pains as it makes the muscles relax. Roberta.

Wow! So glad I got on here! No Doctor would help me! Spent a ton of money just to be at the same point. I tried heat pad, would that be the same? As this did not help ☹️

That probably would have the same effect. I'm sorry to hear it didn't help you, it's probably not a muscle thing then. I find heat doesn't help with trapped gas, so it could be that? Not that that helps you much!
