Has anyone else had pain from gas in their splenic flexure. I am undergoing tests at the moment as a precaution incase there is another cause for my discomfort but my G.P. feels it will turn out to be the trapped gas. He says it is a form of Ibs. I dont have constipation or diareah.
I am new on here so thanks in anticipation. X

I had never heard of this until now but this is absolutely what I experience at times. I have recently been diagnosed with IBS and have under gone a Colonoscopy earlier in the year to ensure it was nothing sinister.
In that exact area ( looking at a diagram now ) my left side, near my lower rib ( exactly where the Splenic Flexure is ) I get a sharp stabbing pain which can be relieved by forcing a burp and I can also feel the gas travel around ( it feels similar to the feeling of air being passed through my bowels when I had the colonoscopy but it is painful ) At times when I have experienced this pain I have sworn it is heart related, this has in turn caused much anxiety with panic attacks for which I have had CBT and 1 on 1 therapy. I have identified the foods that make me gassy and avoid them now - when I do that I am fine.
Thanks for sharing this as it has opened my eyes to what this symptom of IBS could be.
Hope all goes well with your tests and I am sure you will be fine : )
Trapped gas can be very very painful, I know, but, if you start your day by having a drink of hot water from your kettle, nothing in it, just the hot water. My grandmother did this for years, and she swears it stopped her having gas problems, and she was what was called the spey wife of our village. Every one came to her for advice. After that, if you still get cramps or trapped gas, try Buscopan for cramps. NOT the one for ibs, the one for cramps! I hope I have been of help.
Yes, you are not alone. I suffered excruciating pain a couple of months ago. It was so bad that I fell down on the ground, unable to move and without any strength to even answer my cell phone when my friend called to see where I was in order to meet for lunch. The phone was right there in my tote bag and I had no strength to reach and get my cell out. I let it ring....they found me half conscious and they took me to the ER . For a year now I have undergone all kinds of tests both in Europe and in the USA. Doctors on both sides of the Atlantic said that the results were perfect except for pockets of gas showing on my X-rays . To this moment I have no specific diagnosis. Out of fear of a repeat performance, I have equipped myself with gasX chewable tablets, i stopped eating cheese and milk products except for kefir and Greek yogurt made from goat milk, prunes, dried figs mixed with flaxseed . Right now I feel normal which I attribute to a healthy diet. It takes time and lots of trial and tribulation to deal with the gas problem. I assure you, if you eat good food, your body will reward you.
If one is prone to intestinal gas it is best to avoid any foods or drinks that cause fermentation in the gut or trapped gas. The FODMAPs diet covers most of those.
Thanks for the advice i will try hot water tomorrow relly fed up of this wind and pain in the splenic flecture, which ive never heard of before very grateful dedeottie you have eased my mind thought i was the only one with this problem x
