Feeling ill
Hi I gave up 16 th April 2014 and for the last year I have been unwell with colds anxiety panic attacks, I never used to get unwell only having s cold once in a blue moon. I had sinusitis 3 weeks ago and yesterday I was at docs with throat infection and now on meds. I often say I never been so Ill since giving up and could start smoking again but I wouldn't.
Hi lots of people I know have said this. Apparently your Lungs start working at full strength again, and all the built up Congestion comes to the surface. Most of them have said it last for a year then starts to subside, but as we know we are all different, and some have the affects for years. I hope you feel better soon.x
Yes I think this is quite normal. When I gave up 9 years ago I had coughs colds hay fever and faint and dizzy spells. I also had high blood pressure and ended up in hospital. Luckily most of these effects have now worn off and am even gently coming off high blood pressure medication, now less than one third of what I was taking. I often thought about going back to smoking especially as I also put on weight but I'm glad I didn't. I had smoked for over 40 years so it is no surprise really that there should be some side effects but didn't expect so many! Good luck hope next year is better for you.
I'm am not a smoker but have lived with one for many many years. He has quit smoking after many years and is now sickly and lacks energy, sounds like he is coughing up a lung some days. I think in part since smoking is a poison, it puts your body on high alert, so many other things go unnoticed until you stop. I think also your body gets so used to the nicotine and having that boost, that when its gone from your body, you feel tired, since your body doesn't rally know what normal is anymore, until it adjusts to the cessation of smoking. My family member suffers very bad headaches now, which he didn't before, but he has only been off cigarettes for just over a year, hopefully with time, things will be normal again.
Awesome for you! and the other ones that posted that they quit, I took a mental-heath class and one of the things we learned is that quitting cigarettes is very similar to quitting Meth. it is that addictive! it is extremely difficult, psychologically and physically as your body misses the nicotine and the habit. So Kuddos to all those who quit!
I must say firstly well done to anyone who gives up smoking. I started smoking 50yrs ago,by the time I was in my 30s I was on 40 a day. By the time I reached my 50s I developed Emphesema, now I don't blame the ciggies for that because all my family had it,but I don't think smoking helped anyway. It took an admission to A&E and I life support machine to stop me,I've never felt so ill in my life, they told my family I wouldn't see the night through. The point I'm making is I agree with the post that states nicotine is as addictive as heroin. But being so ill for 3wks I never really noticed the Withdrawel. So I stopped easily, but had I not been ill I would have smoked till the day I died. That was about10yrs ago,I put on about 2 stone in much needed weight,I eat better, and I drink water with fresh lemon juice in,all day, just keep topping it up.
I used to suffer with migraines I haven't had one since, not even headaches and I haven't had a cold or chest infection in 10yrs,and that's the truth, obviously I'm on puffers for my breathing, but i can do most things in life,if it wasn't for my other health issues, which are not smoke related. I would never condem anyone for smoking, because I've been there,so if you manage to stop I say well done to you.
Be careful your not blaming smoking for what's happening to you now,it could just as easily happened if you were smoking, you need to build up your immune system now.
Sorry if I went on a bit,but I think smoking is blamed far to much for anything that's wrong with us. Work on building back what it's took from you.
