I posted 2 months ago that taking a calcium supplement (for diagnosed osteopenia) had stopped my IBS-d completely. That is still the case, which is great.

Whole new set of problems now. Anal fissure and piles. I suppose rectum didn't have anything solid in it for three years and its all to much for it!

Seriously though, any tips out there? It's much worse it the evening. Tried hot baths, ordinary otc cream and a cream from doctor. But still giving me problems.

I'm taking 300mg twice a day, which I see is recommended way to take calcium for maximum absorption. RDA is between 1,000 and 2,000. I have oat milk with added calcium and occasionally a yoghurt. My doctor said to take a supplement for the osteopenia.

My BMs are perfect, not too solid or bulky.

The supplement I'm taking has VitD in it. I'm one of those people who is outside at every given moment. Although I admit cut down a bit with this grotty wind and rain!

I had flex Sig and endoscopy in 2014, all ok, consultant said take Imodium for life!!

I'm retiring in six weeks, I'm thinking that I will get some more detailed tests then.

At the moment I'm so happy that the calcium has dried up my BMs. I had a cholecystectomy, so I wonder if excreted bile could have also added to the diarrhoea.

Thank you for your comments, I have noticed from your previous posts that you have knowledge in this area x

Always had a 'funny' tummy from childhood. 50 years ago these things were ignored. Got more sensitive after having my children, very sensitive to fats.

All flared up about 3 and a half years ago, after taking too many (in hindsight) antibiotics for a tooth abscess. Also family death, minor car crash and work problems, all in a three month period.

After cholecystectomy, diarrhoea got worse. Consultant said take Imodium for life to stop diarrhoea. I have always wondered if I was one of those who have problems with bile after gall bladder removal. My doctor said unlikely. Took Imodium for a couple of years. I got the dose down to a half an Instant one each day. I did that with simple eating. limiting sauces, cakes, sweets, fats, dairy, etc. During that time a had a gluten intolerance test, negative. Also tried FODMAP, too restricting for me personally.

I started calcium supplement after bone density test. Because I take Omeprazole for a small hiatus hernia. Within a week of this I could give up Imodium don't take it at all now. Not constipated, perfect poo. I know it's not cured the problem, but is has bound it up.

I am quite an 'allergic" person, I have oral sensitivity to foods from the birch tree pollen group and often have rhinitis. All very minor problems.

I have Gilbert's Syndrome (high bilirubin levels) and mild neutropenia. Both minor problems again.

I'm perfectly happy to believe that there is a root cause to the diarrhoea. When i asked my doctor, about a nutritionist, she said that one would only put me on FODMAPS. I don't mind paying privately, but which one to go to? Don't mind spending my cash if it works. I also wondered about CBT.

I retire next month from a job that has required heavy lifting. I'm going to try and cut down the Omeprazole then. I take 20mg daily (down from 40mg).

I was also thinking about seeing a different doctor in the practice, too start me off on tests, this one listens but doesn't help much!

Your diet sounds like it might be very restricted. Healing your body sounds very interesting.

Not sure it's the calcium causing your problems now unless you've become intolerant of soya which is in the medication

I've been taking Adcal3d for several years and it hasn't made any difference to me

My sister is on a bisphonate but can't tolerate the Adcal

My main problem now is healing the piles/ cut, I think aggravated by the fact that my BMs are bulky now as opposed to diarrhoea.
