Inflammation problems
This is common and if you have hemorrhoids the more you sit and try to poo the more blood goes to that area and the more the rectal nerves get out of control and the more the feeling of incomplete defecation. It's a nightmare, my colorectal surgeon gave me Diltiazem cream which helps with the pain and urgency a bit. There's nothing they can do except to tell you to manage your stress.
This problem is a lot more common than you would imagine. It's just that being a delicate topic people are reluctant to talk about it and just suffer in silence.
But on this site with no such inhibitions it shows how widespread it is..
For me co codamol gives temporary relief and in the evening a drop of whisky and a hot water bottle certainly takes the edge off the pain
I have cramp in the rectum often at the moment. It lasts anywhere between two hours and 26 hours! The pain is similar to toothache. It may be Levator Ani Syndrome or Proctalgia Fugax (the latter is defined as only lasting up to 20 minutes and I have suffered from that at night for 40 years).
Ibuprofen and paracetamol hardly touch the pain but the doctor has prescribed a Salbutamol inhaler for use during attacks. This will not take the pain away but certainly seems to be shortening the length of the attacks somewhat... and at least you know that relief is coming!
My IBS-C is definitely caused by anxiety and I am now awaiting counselling.
The problem is it is very difficult not to feel anxious and worried with ibs it makes you feel ill all the time and life becomes so miserable.
I agree - breaking that cycle is key to beginning to live comfortably with the condition. That's why I'm hoping the counselling will give me the tools.
I fully agree to that talking to someone and opening up you will start on the journey to recovery when I was younger I worked for social services and I asked to run a group for anxiety and depression it was a marvellous experience and nearly all the patients recovered though knowing someone cared and realising they where not the only one’s suffering and IBS is very similar we are all suffering together and this site is we all have something in common and are helping me included. I am learning how to recover the same as you.
If rectum is very inflamed you could try to get some steroid suppositories but I am not sure a GP can prescribe; I have IBS but also IBD (colitis) and my gastro said inflamed rectum is remedied by using suppositories or foam. You may need scope just in your rectum but I would speak to GP first...
