IBS, SIBO and low fodmap diet

Hi all,

I hadn't heard about magnesium or Normacol and will try one or the other. I am now finding that constipation is a big problem. I tried reintroducing higher fodmap foods after 7 months on the low fodmap diet ....began taking fiber pills but nothing works. SIBO continues to be a huge problem. I took 3 rounds of xifaxan to no avail.. Is anyone able to return to semi normal eating at some point? I am running out of ideas....

Hi the two things I take are magnesium citrate 1 at night and fennel tea bags you can add lemon and ginger, I have suffered for 20 years with IBS this is the best I have felt for a long time, hope this helps.

magnesium citrate did not help me but Magnesium Glycinate (600g a day) does help a great deal. Also 2-3 tbsp of milled linseeds (flaxseeds) per day. I have had SIBO & taken herbal antibiotics & am trying to un-restrict my low fodmaps diet a bit, although I'm scared of SIBO coming back. It's shocking that Xifaxan has not worked for you & I hope you have more luck soon.

The easy and convenient treatment for constipation is drinking plenty of water and eating right. First in the morning, after brush up, drink 2 - 3 glasses of water. Thereafter light exercise for half an hour or a brisk walk for half an hour. After that drink another two glasses of water. Then breakfast preferably with whole bread with light butter or veg. sandwich. No starchy breakfast, fast food or similar items. Avoid non-veg as far as possible but can have it once or twice a week. Should not indulge in it. Food should tasty to the body and NOT to the mouth.

Thank you for your suggestions. Drinking that much water early may be challenging, but if it works I'll try it.

Not yet- but started peppermint tabs which I have heard are helpful. I plan to get another opinion from a different gastroenterologist soon. Thanks for your feedback.
