Hello, I am just looking for some advice. I have IBS, but I am unsure if this is connected. During my period I am experiencing stitch like pain in my right shoulder blade it radiates up my neck and down my outer arm. I have pain in under my rib cage on my right side which worsens when I take a deep breath. This seemed to start happening when I was taking an oestrogen only pill, I stopped the pill, the pain had not been present in my last two periods, but now it is back. Any advice would be appreciated.

Shoulder and rib pain.
What does your Dr. say? Doesn't sound like anything related to IBS - though there's always a first time! I would say get medical advice first, as it seems to be associated with the pill.
I've gone in to talk with them a couple of times. The first time she shrugged at me and told me she didn't know why I would feel this pain. I asked if it could be caused by my hormones and she said she had never heard of that. The second time I had spoken to a Dr friend and he had told me it could be Endometriosis so i went back and suggested that. My Dr was skeptical but I was pushy and she referred me to a gynaecologist. I had an ultrasound on my womb but they saw no scar tissue and said it was unlikely.
Hi fellow sufferer, that's sounds very painful! If you're female a 1st sign of miscarriage is shoulder and rib pain which will really hurt then worsen if not I'd still see someone there's something a miss somewhere, good luck I hope it sorts itself out!
Hi my IBS pain was very similar to yours when I started (Post infective IBS). Right shoulder pain but as symptoms have improved so has my shoulder pain which was a dull ache type pain.
It could be worth asking GP for a physio referral to rule out a upper back or neck problem that are being aggravated by change in hormones brought about by period. If you get a lot of period pain you might alter how you sit (crouch over more) and simply sitting up straighter could help reduce the pain. Either way a physio could be a useful. Just an idea & Good Luck.
That sounds more like gallbladder pain than IBS.... I suffer badly with both and get terrible pain under the right side of my ribs and had an ultra sound which came back with gallstones. Ask for a referral for an ultrasound.
