Hi. I’ve always had ibs issues but was diagnosed last year. Placed on Welchol for ibs d and felt great. Followed low god map but eventually started eating bad things. I’ve had 3 rounds of Xifaxan, but lately stomach hurt, shoulder blade pain and chest burning. This all goes away when I lay down. To top it off I have panic attacks. Right now I’m under tons of stress so I question is it ibs causing panic or panic causing ibs. Any suggestions?
Chest and back/shoulder pain: Hi. I’ve always... - IBS Network
Chest and back/shoulder pain
I have basically all these symptoms but my IBS is is not d and is more like between c and d so c+ or the big F on many days. I have chronic shoulder pain and neck pain and def have issues with mild freak outs based on my gut. Lets not talk about dentist chairs or dr appts or travel.
Its a nightmare honestly. I carry major stress in my neck and shoulders, and in turn my gut fires off the pain in my neck and my neck causes pain into my chest and then my mind thinks I am going to have a heart attack and then the panic flows all over the place.
I have been trying many things to control my internal panic and fears and some work and most do not. I try to stay off most meds as normally it just makes me feel worse or I feel terrible for days after for one day of feeling just good enough to make it through work.
In other words I feel your pain and your not alone.
My ibs d has turned to ibs c. I honestly prefer d. I’d had it for years but one day chronicle c pain started and I had to do something. That’s where the Welchol came in. I’ve had Xifaxan and felt great on that. Now I have ibs c and pain that won’t leave except when I lay down. This has caused my panic attacks to start. Klonopin helps pain and panic but how long is this pain going to last. Constant nausea. Any recommendations? Loud stomach too.
I would not be amazed if the xifaxin moved you from D to C
So what do u think is causing this nauseating pain under my rib and shoulder blades that won’t go away? Never had this before. Am new to this.
I am in no way a Dr. I know for me I get random gut pains all the time but they will move or change with food or bowel movements gas release etc. I was told long ago that pain that stays the same is the pain you truly need to get seen for so if you have consistent pain for days on end its time to see a Dr.
So happy to see the word "welchol" on this forum! I kept posting about it! I am on Colestipol which is the same thing and it has changed my life! Why are you on the other drug? How much Welchol do you take a day? My doctor started me on 2, twice a day, but I had to up the dose, via his instructions, because 2 just didn't do it for me.

Hi, just come across your post. I agree with sweetsusie, I think you are probably taking too much welchol. It may be that at first it helped the d but now its making it go too far the other way hence the c. Maureen.
