Does anyone here have diverticular disease. I have it for the past 9 years, and really suffer with it, I believe it comes up under the umbrella of ibs, is that true?
Diverticular disease: Does anyone here have... - IBS Network
Diverticular disease
I have ibs and diverticulitus. they are considered seperate ailments but both are equally annoying. the diverticular flare up is a lot more painful for me personally.
Yes thank you lynne, for answering me, when getting help with my dla appeal I was told by an official (my local political representative) when he was filling in my form of appeal that diverticular disease now comes under the umbrella of IBS, not that IBS is any less of a disease, I believe it hit me pretty bad when I used to work before I became medically retired, but yes DV pains are bad too, and I've lots of flares unfortunately, just thinking lately as much as I'm suffering from I think I will look into giving up wheat and lactose and see what I feel like then, I'm really fed up with it, thanks anyway, from Claire xx
Hi Lynn25ukuk,
I was replying to you there but my answer came up down below how strange, must be because I just called you Lynne lol
Yes, I was diagnosed with DV and it does flare up now and then. I think if I take something to keep the bowel clean IE no chance of the little folds becoming nasty, it helps.
A short course of one of the blends of natural probiotic cultures with psyllium husks every now and then does it for me. Lepicol from the healthy bowel co is ok for me.
John
Now John43,
What are you talking about because I think I need something else for it sometimes what I use is not so successful, I thought eating fruit little wheat (mostly oats), and a vegetarian lifestyle and as much water as I can drink everyday would be enough for me would the spyllium husks be like that of movical which my doctor gives me? must look that lepicol too, do you have to send away for it. I ate about 6 tiny peanuts in a few tiny biscuits last week as well as a half cup of sweetcorn, and a few pumkin seeds we roasted ourselves and honestly I was fit to be tied after it what I had to do to cure my constipation is unbelievable, (usual, you know!), its a wonder I did'nt drown from all the water I drank, thanks from Claire, all my posts are going everywhere God knows where this one will go xxx
The info is for clairebm but thanks anyway
When I had my colonoscopy, my Dr said I have diverticulitis. I think this has a lot to do with my IBS attacks. He stated that sometimes those pockets get inflamed or irritated. That causes the attacks. I get severe attacks at least once a year but they last a long time.
Hazel,
Thank's for chatting, I get attacks or flares on too regular a basis, which is really hard to take, I'm considering giving up wheat, but I honestly dont eat that much wheat, and lactose, though Milk never bothered me, but I'll have to do something because the pain and the rest is bad enough but the regular constipation is wrecking me, thanks anyway from Claire xx
I have diverticulitis. My doctor has given me Colofac for the last two years, which is for IBS.
Its all very confusing. I tried leaving off certain foods. I am still only having lactose free milk or soya milk. What I would like to know is: how do you know if the agonising flare ups are IBS or DV?
I really dont know Mazzi, I know when I was working (8 years in a school setting), I couldnt eat anything all day, or I had to go to the loo and do no 2's, maybe not so bad with someone who did'nt have ibs, but I did, so I had to survive for 8 years on crackers and mild soup on some wintery days, if I didnt I burped if I did'nt need to go to the loo and had dreadful pains, that I think was IBS, though no one told me I had IBS, the other I've had for 9 years and I know the hell of it believe me, I thought and so did my doctor that I was going to have a re-section done after my last colonoscopy, but did'nt but I wish I did believe me, thanks anyway, Claire, my doc only gave me sachets of movical to take as he said he couldnt give me anything else because he already gave me the painkiller Naproxen for my arthritis in my knees (and wrists) sometimes I wish he could give me something else for it, ie a shotgun lol thanks anyway Mazzi xxx
ive recently had a colonoscopy and they found that i have Diverticular disease ,and im now awaiting for an M R I scan to check the rest out as it was too painfull while having the colonoscopy, from what i understand so far , i will be operated on,im too far past antibiotics, at the moment im on a high fibre diet, which is so boreing, i miss my chocolates and junk food, im have to take laxatives Laxido up to 3 sachets a day and i also take 2 Bisacodyl before bed time, im not sure how i got the disease ,but i was very constipated and thats why i went for a check up at the hospital and this is the findings so far in my lower colon, the MRI scan will tell me more .

I'm being investigated at the present time. A couple of weeks ago I was admitted to A&E because of heavy rectal bleeding. It happened a couple of times last summer, usually after a bout of diarrhoea following constipation. I've just had a CT scan in the private sector and am going for sigmoidoscopy in the NHS. Obviously, to rule out anything more sinister. It's possible there are polyps in there which bleed heavily from time to time.
I've been taking a medication called Vesicare to calm down my irritable bladder. Unfortunately it does also cause constipation. I've also been taking soluble aspirin routinely for years. I've stopped taking both those.
We eat healthily, plenty of fibre, wholemeal bread, fruit and veg. Hopefully, avoiding constipation will calm it all down and, if polyps are present, they can be removed.
