Just joined this group has anyone tried fybogel? Got prescription from Gp for it yesterday. Were there any side effects? And how long before it started to help?

Thank you

Hi Alexander -I haven't used fybogel but I use glucomannan which is from the konjac root.. It works very well for me. During really bad ibs/d I use it several times a day.. I find it helps tremendously. Glucomannan is soluble fibre - I always keep some in the house for when flair ups start. Hope this helps

I think this has aspartame in which is so bad for you and can make things worse. Linseed works much better

I have taken one fibogel sachet in the morning and evening for several years and I find it helps. It's not the perfect cure (given up on that one!) but I get on with it better than other fibre supplements. Normacol is supposed to irritate less as it does not ferment in the bowel and cause wind, but my experience with Normacol was aweful. Everyone is different is what I'm trying to say! I really think you should give it a go and see whether it suits you. You might have more wind for a week or so but then it usually settles down as your body adjusts.

I would give wheat up and try effective diets cutting certain foods outto help the bowel and probiotics that help as well

I used to take fybogel but found that while it did work, it upset my bowels even more. You may well do just fine on it, but like everyone on here will say, we all react differently to foods and meds. As to how long it will take to work, I found it could take anything from 2hrs to a full day, again it may be very different for you. Best of luck with it. Keep positive.

Hi

I used fybogel before and it didn't help me at all. I was on 7 a day for a while once and it didn't make any difference. But it sounds like everything is trial and error with IBS everything is always worth a try. I use alternate between 4 senna, 2 ducolax or suppositories but I try to do it not very oftern, don't want to become dependent on it :-(

Pretty much the same here, it didn't do much for me and it took me ages to drink it inbetween gagging lol If you need extra fibre, I've always used psyllium husk capsules. Alas like everything else IBS related, you tend to keep working through an endless list of maybe's until you find something that works for you!
