Help would be much appreciated regarding getting diagnosis for coughing and wheezing.
Hi, Im not sure if anyone can help, I know you cant diagnose online. But was wondering how hard people on here have had to push for further diagnostic tests etc at the beginning of a problem. I have had a cough for the past year and a half nearly but was only a problem initially after exercise when

What to say to kids when they see you flare
Two days ago I was at my best friends house. Her kids and I are very close (known them since birth, consider them nieces and nephews). At dinner I started coughing up a storm. Two puffs of ventolin calmed it but after I was back to breathing like a normal human being, the oldest told me that it was

When to start steroids?
Symptoms have been getting worse over last few days, not coping with heat, wheezy when I walk around an need lots more ventolin if I have to go outside. I have prednisolone at home, just wondering what the usual criteria is for starting it?

Mold and damp
Hi all I'm hoping someone might be able to help me. I am 25 and newly diagnosed with asthma following a series of infections. I have recently moved house and my partner has quit smoking (not that he ever smoked around me!) but we have a leak in our house which turned out to be a more severe leak than

Week 4 Run 2 plus extra characters - who did the feedback on this?
I caught sight of myself today in a window running aka DOING A VERY SLOW SHUFFLE. Made I larff. On the one hand, I went up and down the inclines on my usual route. On the other hand, I had to ventolise twice. So I wouldn't say it was a good run. I'm thinking I might repeat W4 - doing it on 3 doses of

Been feeling rubbish all day with worsening hayfever, eyes and nose itching and streaming like mad and both quite red now, sneezing, sore throat and headachy. My chest has been feeling a little bit tight/heavy most of the day so have been taking ventolin to ease it, but thought I was ok really breathing

Are you an Asthmatic runner? Post your tips here to help others please
I have read so many blogs people have posted saying they are asthmatic so perhaps those who also suffer could post some tips so we can help each other:- 1. Doctor's instructions for me is take two puffs of my Ventolin before I go for a run, also to carry it with me. Common sense perhaps but its not

I did feel it in my legs this time. And I didn't need ventolin during the run at all - that's a very real hurdle got over, even if it is mostly psychological. Actually I think I was too occupied thinking my legs were going to stop working to think about my inhaler. This is progress.

Update - having hard time with taper, doctors
Eight months ago I came down with a cold which turned into one of my worst periods of uncontrolled asthma in years. Things hit a low point at the beginning of May when I was hospitalized for an asthma flare-up. The week after I left the hospital, things were really good and I thought that finally

Ventolin/salbutamol reliever nearly expired
My previous ""blue"" inhaler has just run out and when I went to the medicine cabinet, the other one I had turns out to be about to expire. The ""new"" (i.e. unused) inhaler is the same kind (blue Ventolin Evohaler of 100 micrograms salbutamol sulphate) was prescribed in December 2011 and is stamped

Dare I say, I felt a bit less anxious today. (It's another long 'un.)
Hi everybody. Thanks again for all our kind messages. It was really heartwarming. I'll try and take all the advice given. My attempts at stopping smoking are continuing. I have stopped twice before. once in 1993 but started again the year after. (Idiot.) And again in 2004 because I had an xray

Feeling down and a little lost...
So, I've had asthma for nearly 4 years now, and was diagnosed as 'brittle' two years back. I also have depression stretching back to when I was a teenager (about 10 years or so). I had thought that I was ready to come off my meds for the depression as I am starting a new period in my life. I graduated

It has all come at once!
Well 8 months ago I didn't even take a paracetamol unless I was in absolute agony, now I am on seretide, spiriva, ventolin, low dose aspirin, cholesterol tablets and champix! What a difference in such a short space of time. Also found calcification on my diaphram from asbestos exposure, nothing they

My mum, a quick update

I am so scared that this is it
Over the weekend, I wrote about a eureka moment, putting my mum's breathlessness down to a faulty nebuliser. Well she has had 3 and half days of a fully working one and is no better at all. As well as her four prescribed nebulisers a day, of ventolin and respontin, she has been having extra ventolin

Blog or question - puzzled!
Sometimes I read something on the blogs which actually cries out for an answer rather than a comment and on the questions ones that turn into just comments with no real answers. This is why I don't know under which heading to put this query. I am 67 years old 5'2" and weigh 7st , my grandson is 5'4

A eureka moment
Some of you lovely people know I care for my mum who has end stage emphysema. She is now receiving palliative care and has just been introduced to the hospice at home service. We have been made aware that her next infection could be her last :-( She has home and ambulatory oxygen, and a nebuliser
